carfax or other?
What is the best way to check on the past of your vette? is carfax worth the money or is there something else out there as good, a bit cheaper? thanks

Carfax is only as good as the information that is input to their system. For example, if the car is wrecked (like at a track day) and the owner chooses to repair it at his expense, no data is sent to Carfax about an accident.
Sometimes mileage information is mis-enterd into the Carfax database when the car is sold. In most states, a car that is over 10 years old no longer needs to have mileage reported on the title at the time of sale.
Should an odometer be replaced, it's possible that the correct mileage is not shown on the replacement (later C4's that store mileage in the CCM can be problematic in this regard).
But it doesn't cost a bunch to get a Carfax subscription if you really want that information. But don't ask somebody to get it for you here, it's against the Forum rules.

if you have an auto auction near you take the vin number and ask them to run it for you, they use 3 different services like carfax and is pretty accurate.nothing will cover an owner repaired accident but most car dealers have a paint meter that will detect a repaint anywhere on the car all you have to do is just touch each section and it measures the depth of the finish, factory will always be the same.

Autocheck is better than Carfax in my opinion. Your subscription is twice as long for the same money and I've had it find things Carfax missed. Just my two cents worth.
