Are you seeing the "SYS" flash below the digital speedometer, or the Service Engine Soon light on the center dash?
Retrieving codes via the dash will only get the CCM codes which trip the speedo "SYS", while you will need an OBDII code reader/scanner to get at the ECM codes indicated by the SES light. It's one of the things we lucky '96 owners have to deal with due to OBDII vs. OBDI.
Redeasysport is correct about C12. The following letters & numbers tell you which computer module is being looked at, and the dashes indicate that that particular module is not storing a code. If there was a code, it ( or they) would appear in place of the dashes.
You clear the SES light by diagnosing and fixing the problem that it's trying to tell you about, then pushing the "clear" button (or similar) on your code reader.

If I remember correctly, the FSM for '96 will incorrectly lead you to believe that codes for the ECM can be displayed on the digi dash. I forget which number is supposed to correspond to it - maybe "9."? However, OBDII codes are 5 characters long while the display can only show 3 anyway. I don't think the ECM can even be accessed this way to clear the codes.
It is my suspicion that a lot of the FSM was carried over from '95 without sufficient updates, and in this case it is confusing.

Will these ECM codes be stored, or can I be lucky it will turn off again?
(reason i asked is that on my way out the door to the first vette meeting this year, and then this crap happens)

He needs to get it scaned to pull them. Those codes start with a "P" and include O2's among other things. I forgot it was a 96.

so just drove the car.
After the car had sit for one hour while is was working with the code, It started up and No SES... Than after 3 miles the SES came back on again. Its raining heavily here, could that be affecting some thing?
After my one hour drive, I seems like the car is only running on 7 cylinder at idle and low rpms. But its not all the time..And when i blip the throttle it comes on 8 cylinder just fine.
BTW the idle has dropped to 500 rpms, is that normal?
