Calling all Florida resident's...
Hi all been a while for me posting..
Need a favor going retire (24 march)
Looking to get a place in Florida I been looking on the internet for a place maybe water front canal, lake area.
What's a good area in Florida anyone know?
Not a mansion or anything just a nice smaller house $50,000 $125,000 price range. near or on the water ocean lake canal in a area you don't have to carry a gun.. P.S. No like old folks communities where they have a zillion restrictions.
thanks all the places I have seen area wise is Ft Myers area Punta Gorda in that area

Water and starting at $400,000. are more reality. (even in the center of the state....ie. Sebring/Mt Dora).
Good luck with your search. Get back to us and let us know how you did.

Clay, I been in Florida for many years...the limits you set ($50000.-125000. -- no old people -- on or near water and no crime) are not realistic. If they exist, you wouldn't want to live there.

I hope you are good with math. By factoring what you are looking for by 2 (125,000 X 125,000) you will find a very nice small home (<1200 sqft) on a swampy unnavigable inlet, muddy bayou, or immersed in reeds.
Average home which needs work, from about 30 miles north of Tallahassee, over the rest of the states expanse will run you about 300K minimum. This is of course landlocked with nearest water 50 miles away. Withnin 5 miles of water expect 750K - within one mile of water expect 1.7 million. Waterfront anywhere? 2.5~5.5 million on average starting price.
Over the last few years, Florida has made a real push to not allow entry to any one, or, couple which earns less than 500K annually. If you do not have acces to at least 125K a year during your retirement, you will not be happy here. The local governments are also pushing for a complete removal of manufactured home parks and a big reduction in RV parks. They did this to slow the rate of progression of infedels, er, canadians and the like

I have a bud who lives in Ft Lauderdale. He got a $50.00 fine because one (1) weed popped up in his yard while away at work...
I used to live in Davie - Got real tired of the rat race after only 4 years..

I'm in Gainesville, which isn't too far from Palatka. There are lots of small lakes in this area of Florida, so if that would work for you, this might not be a bad place to check out. Gainesville itself is probably not the best choice for prices, but you might find what you're looking for in the general area.

I am retiring and leaving Florida. I will cash out about 600K in equity and go somewhere where my dollar buys something, insurance is affordable, and they don't have 120 KT winds.

There's a house just up the street from me, on a canal, 80'x125', new roof (after the hurricanes), with a pool (screened) and a little fishing dock for listing for $175,000.
Sebastian - @ the inlet - nice area.

Hi Clayton.OK I'm going to be nice and not comment on the needed income to live in Florida It sounds like you need a passport to get in The west coast is a lot cheaper than the east as long as you stay north of Ft Myers and south of Sarasota. Also(except for Charley)a much better bet of dodging hurricanes. The Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda area is virtually zero crime.I own about 40 guns and never carry unless I'm going to a SASS shoot. My buddy is a builder and has new 1500 sqft 3/2/2 homes including lot price starting at $149.000.Insurance is around $750.00.The builders are dropping like flies and there are some real bargains out there.Just around the corner from me is a 3/2/2,2200 under air, finished except for cabinets and exterior paint for $119,000.I bet a cash offer would get it lower. If you want something cheaper I have a 1/1.5 condo just totally refurbished after the hurricanes(only took 4 years) that I would take $55,000 for.If you want to move here you could not have picked a better time.Florida is in total recession and there are so many bargains to be had.Come and join the fun

Florida Dreamin'
I moved to Florida in 95' after retiring from GM in Detroit....Started in Sebastian,on the East coast.....Had a 73 at the time....Then moved to Satellite Beach,a condo near the Cape....Had a 98 then......BIG MISTAKE.....Maintence fees and INSURANCE,plus SPECIAL ASSESMENTS drove me out in two years....then to Cocoa,in a 55 Park, which was really nice.....Another 98 because the first was stolen from the DEALERSHIP WHEN IN FOR REPAIRS (JIM SCREW"EM RATHMAN)IN MELBOURNE .....NOT entirelly TRUE about the "OLD" people, they love cars as mutch as anyone)....liked it a lot....Wished I was still there.....Check out OLD TOWN,on a Sat Night, near Orlando, youll love it.....Then I left after 10yrs to go to AZ.......Every city has its good and bad......Good Luck and beware of the REAL ESTATES.....Look for your own deal thru HELP U SELL....
