the one with chad mcqueen from 1996, and i noticed a few things seriously wrong with that movie... the corvette they used was a 1988 according to the wheels, and some of the interior shots, buit had a ZR1 rear bumper, and LT5 with a 6 speed... unless that was an ultra rare 1989 ZR1 or it was a seriously confused corvette
Could be possible. In the Corvette books there's always a picture of a ZR1 with '89 style wheels. There's also a set of 1989 ZR1 wheels on that auction site for $2k.
no this was the one from 1996 with the C4... from the looks of it, there was a scene of him backing it off a boat, and the rear wheels do not look like the usuall 17X11's that come on a ZR1... also it has ZR1 badges on the rear bumper, and on the sides of the hood
They use a flat dash car with a Z rear bumper, and a real 90 Z for some of the shots. Watch when the 928 blows up, it is some kind of car with square quad headlights, And the 911 cab that is pushed off of the buiding has no drivetrain. I enjoyed seeing the Vettes in the movie though.

They use several different versions of the same car in all kinds of movies. The '70s Monte Carlo in Tokyo Drift was racing with a 572 big block, but if you watch when it wrecks and flips over, its got a cheap 350 in it.

i noticed that in a few shots, but in the shots where he up-shifts, you can clearly see that it is atleast a 90

That's the funniest auction I have seen in a while. That guy is absolutely nuts if he thinks he has 'rare, prototype' wheels. Just how do his wheels differ from later ZR1 wheels? They don't!

What a hoot.
Actually the 89 ZR-1 17x11 ARE RARE.. and they ARE PROTOTYPES
the 89 and 90 wheel look close to the same but the 90 has Exposed lugs where the 89 has a cover over the lugs.
there was a set of 89 ZR-1 rear wheels on here about 6 months ago.. asking price was $800 for the pair
so the guy on eBay IS selling the RARE 89s item 280201634914

Aside from Center Caps and Part #'s - why would these wheels command such a high price? Are they any different than wheels that followed? Are they made of a special alloy? Were they hand-crafted by Italian artisans? Did the CEO of GM pee on them?
Sorry, I just don't see these wheels fetching $2,000. There were no 1989 ZR1's for sale to the public so just who would want them? It's not like you'd need them to complete that restoration project.....
I can see it now, Joe C4 at a Car Show explaining to a judge that his wheels are 'special prototype ZR1' wheels. Judge says: So where's the 1989 ZR1 they are supposed to be on? Knock off 10 points for not having original equipment.

oh I ma not arguing that they are Worth that amount, IF you look there are a few prototype still around. apparently the wheels were released for sale before they decided to delay the car.
but I look at it this way too.. I have seen wheels liek Fikse sell for MORE brand new.

Sheridan Vo-Tech Center in Hollywood, FL, perhaps? (GM had their training classes there, dunno if they still do). At the time I went there (early '90's), they DID have a prototype '89 ZR1 that they were supposed to crush but refused to do so. It was used for various classes, and the instructors would take it to local shows.
