You might want to make sure it doesn't say Lingenfelter on it first.

I had a little sparing match with one on one of the privet roads around here. I'm not stock but neither was he. We hung real tight but I was using my gears to negotiate the road and he had auto so he lost.

Let's not forget the horrid wheel hop the GTO has to contend with. I have whipped quite a few LS1 and LS2 GTOs with my mostly stock 92 6spd LT1. Either they (good drivers) bogg it to keep the rear end from comming apart or spin so badly (the ones that don't care) that either way I have 2-3 cars by the 60ft marker. They can never make the difference up.
I just gotta wave the old flag here
I have a '92 LT1 Coupe and an '06 Goat MN6. The Goat is way faster and quicker than the Vette, it comes out of the hole w/o that "horrid wheel" hop you mention, and that LS2 wants to pull all the way through the gears. So does the LT1, but there just isn't enough power to keep up. Poster was correct about the real weight difference, not that much.
Now, on a closed course, such as road racing, or the Tail of the Dragon kind of roads, the Vette is much better and can handle the turns at a faster speeds, but I don't know if it is enough to make up for the acceleration and speed difference that goes in the Goat column on the straightaways....
Armchair talk is just that though, all I can report on is what I know of my two beasts.
