Default Is it Possible to do this....?

On my C4 I have the Updated hood support ( gas shock ) over having the inter-locking canti-lever arm.. I wanted to put in a 12v linear actuators( Like you would see on a modded '48 Effie or Tri-five Chevy P/U these are 12v piston lift that would tilt the hood.........Is it possible to put this on the C4 Clam-shell..? (I'm looking for something that might set my car apart from the others at a local show this summer, i want to be able to lift the hood at the flick of a switch and bring it down slow and have it lock( the same as it would if you were lifting it by hand ) Make some suggestions as to where i can get these 12v linear actuators ....has anyone done this and do you have pictures...?

Sounds like a good idea. Good luck getting it to automatically latch though.....I know mine requires a TON of weight applied to the hood corner to latch. I can't see any way of doing that electronically.

We use linear actuators on alot of machines at work, and the manufacturer will probably have something that would work. The only question I have is, why does it have to latch? oops another question, if the battery is dead there won't be any override- would that be a problem? PM me I'll get you the manufacturers contacts. Anyway a great idea!

Get back to me when you do this....Take Pictures of the mount and where they are on the frame..make a video of it pushong the hood up IYO What is the actual weight of the hood they asked this i attached that email here....And if you can tell me this...

......I made contact with a Linear actuator supplier and they asked me this.....WE DO NOT HAVE A SET UP THAT FITS YOUR CAR ,BUT IF YOU CAN GIVE US THE AMOUNT OF WEIGHT TO BE LIFTED ,WE CAN FIGURE OUT THE LIFT OR LIFT'S NEEDED FOR THE PROJECT, YOU WILL MORE THAN LIKELY HAVE TO BUILD YOUR OWN MOUNTING SYSTEM..............JIM

It's going to be a LOT of weight. With the way the actuator will be positioned almost parallel to the hood when it is first being opened, it will require a ton of force to push the hood up.

you're familiar with the location of the hood support right ? for the 88-96 ..... i have this on the car ( I'm am so glad the other owner changed the oem support to this, Its much nicer.)....as for the actuator, would it be in the same location as the stock hood support ..... they have different ones according to the weight of the front clip... whats your thought on the weight of the hood ( when it's first lifted )

Well first of all I have to say "oops, I forgot all about my promise" The company is Wagner, Inc. I will find out what division makes the actuators. Latching issue-- you would have to break it before it let go on its own. High torque, low horsepower (C4), built in brake. I think a simple pull cable from a pivot pin to the wheel well will allow you to open the hood in case of failure. I will get back to you with more info. Still a great idea and is doable. Add me to the patent
The ones we use lift 250+# easily

JMO, but if the hood weighs (as posted above) at least 81 pounds, the mechanism would have to be some complex, sissor jack, hydrolic pumps mounted in confined areas, with hoses, relays, pistons, resoviours (sorry, i'm not French), switches, wiring, etc. Why not make the car go faster with some engine mods or handle better than it does with suspension work? Unless of course you have the money, then disregard anything I said.
