Hit a deer this morning
Going to work on a two lane road at 4 AM this morning. Had just got up to about 40 mph (didn't want to spill the Java) and boom, there it was. Surprised me even more coming at me from my left. It was a medium sized doe, but man they look a lot bigger in a low slung Vette.
I hit it dead on, but the damage wasn't as bad as I though. I undercut it, hitting it's legs out from under it which caused it body to slid across the hood. Left front signal light shoved in, some cracks in the paint where his legs hit the bumper. Right headlight cover completely broke off. One small crack on the hood. Deer snot across the hood.
At first I was totally pissed, but then I remembered that I have no deductable Comprehensive coverage. This could work out pretty good for me. I can get this stuff fixed, and at the same time have them re-align the bumper to the hood. The hood has never met the bumper right since I bought it. Right now you'd assume it's like that because the deer hit it. Some fresh paint on the hood would be nice too.
BTW went backed and checked and yeah, it was dead with broken back legs.

That sucks man! I'm sorry for you. I have yet to hit a deer (knock on wood), but my brother ran into one right when we put his car up for sale ( ), and it was an unpleasant experience. Just be sure not to wash it until you take pictures at least! Some insurance companies need to see the blood and fur before they believe you ran into a deer and not just a sign or something.
How did you swing that?!

Sorry.
That's too bad, but it might work out good with a repaint and realignment. I hit one in November 2006 with my pickup. I also learned in NC you have to call the highway patrol and make a report if the damage is in excess of $500. If you don't, your insurance can deny the claim.

Wow the way I see it your lucky . I've heard horror stories about deer getting taken out by the legs and body going through the windshield killing the driver. I used my Comprehensive last year and it also worked out in my favor. Although at the time I was upset but in hindsight it was good it got egged.
Good-luck getting it fixed up.

Whoa, that sucks...but for hitting a dear, it sounds like you made out pretty good. I've had a few friends damn near have their cars totalled from hitting a dear.

i have had my vette out 3 times since it started snowing but only on dry days and i just barely missed a deer on 2 of the 3 outings... the first was doing over 70 and had to swerve around it at speed, and the second i had gotten it down to almost a dead stop and it walked out of the way... but lesson learned no more winter speeding for me..

Sorry to hear of your encounter with the deer. Happened to me twice, once in my 89 blazer and once in my 91 convertible, both within one half mile of each other, 11 years between incidents. Damage to blazer was $4,000. The 91 vette was totalled. I have USAA insurance and they gave me top dollar for the car. Used the money to purchase my 02 coupe, and 7 months later found my current 94 convertible on the internet. The 91 vette slammed into a concrete divider separating the north and south bound lanes, but I walked away without any injuries. I was able to drive it to the shop. The 94 is a better car than the 91, but I was not ready to get rid of the 91, so it was a sad experience.
Hope everything works out for you.
