Default Crossfire emblem on 84

I noticed on my front fenders the word Crossfire Injection inside the molding where the hood opens. Some of the letters seemed to be partly white while the rest were just black. When new was that suppose to be a decal or painted on at the factory?

I Want to make car appear a orginal as possible. Any suggestions? Is the molding sold anywhere pre painted? No way my hand is atristic enough to paint inside those letters.Is there another way beside a paint brush inside those small letters to do this?

I don't recall that.
I have an original fully documented '84. The cross-fire lettering was never white as is the case with the tune-port injection lettering.

They always looked sort of "faded." My dad's got a perfect '84 that's never seen rain and has been kept in a heated garage and you'd think the lettering looks faded. But even in old pictures, it never looked like a bright white.

I beg to differ with you. It fairly clear in this original GM Advertisement that it's brightly WHITE.

That's just an artist picture highlighting the lettering. The original moulding was never white. My original dealer brochure with a picture of the car, not an artist rendition, also shows no white lettering.
The NCRS certification manual also does not indicate white lettering, plain black lettering impressioned into the moulding only.

That picture is not a real car, it is a Franklin Mint model. Look at the headlights they don't open and the targa top sits too high.

I did not notice that but I tend to agree that it is a model. However, this one is not and it appears that the Crossfire lettering is white.

Is it possible some were painted at the factory and some were not. Someone had paint mine, but most of it was worn off.Looking through my Corvette books most new 84s appear to be black. Most all atrists pictures show the letters white and Corvette vin #00001 appears to be white???? My car was built late 83.

I've seen some painted white, but usually those are either beaters or all modded up. They definitely came from the factory sort of faded like the TPI badges.

Looking closer at my large volume Corvette books with a magnifing glass it appears on the 1984 the words 'cross fire injection' were painted in white from the factory like the early TPI Corvettes. So if your looking for orginality in your 84 they should be white.

I have had five 84's, and one of them I purchased in 1988 wirh 16k miles. the letters were not white. they were more of a grey color like the TPI cars.

I tend to agree with the slight greyish or black lettering. My guess is that the ones that were white were probably ones that were painted white by the dealer.

There's a guy selling reproduction decals on the crossfire forum....Here's mine

The factory ones were painted, but I'm not sure what color they were.....they wear off over the years. I've never seen them reproduced either, only the decals;

The letters were in fact silver,Ive got an N.O.S. set right here in front of me as I type this.The paint doesnt come of,the words are recesed and they are no longer available from the dealer.It is possible that G.m. had also white as well as silver.I just unwrapped this thing,its more a charcoal silver.I got the last set in the U.S when I biught these years ago.
