OK, looking at an '92 C-4 Coupe, any idea on price?
A dealer has a clean '92 C-4 Coupe, white, 6 speed, 67,000 miles he's asking $9800. The car has leather sport seats, Bose stereo, automatic climate control, 2 tops, active handling excellent paint/interior. The car needs all weatherstrips replaced, and 4 new tires. (the tires are excellent, but have dry-rot)
Ok, Edmunds .com says the car should retail for $6250 in Good condition,
Kelley Blue Book, says $11,910. excellent
What's the deal? The guy is tell me that what he's asking is a good price,
What do you guys think? BTW car is white with red interior. I figure if I ask the C-4 experts I won't get any BULLSH*T, just facts.
Thanks ahead,
John

i would say that is a fair price. Weatherstripping is a problem on any c4 really, its fairly easy to change as well. I am not a pro at pricing but i would say that is afair price

I'd look at this way......Tires a grand, w-strip a grand (GM)....So you'll be paying the Kelly Blue price for an excellent 92 coupe with 67000 miles on it...........so with new rubber & new w-strip, do you consider it an excellent condition car and worth around $11,8?

I'd say the price sounds good but i'd also try to get the dealer to throw in a new set of tires

Came with extra set of brand new Goodyears!
Good Luck!

I got my 1996 LT4 car with the same milage and the same condition for only $1000 more than what he's asking for this 1992 LT1. I say you can do better.

Make sure there is nothing the matter with the trans/clutch ($$$$). I'd guess around $8000 would be fair, kinda funny the dealer isn't putting new rubber on it.

I found out a dealer a little closer to me has a white '95 A-4, which I prefer. My wife spotted the C-4 and likes the body/looks in white. My wife drives stick extremely well, (she owned an '01 Mustang Bullitt GT) but if the car has a stick, it tends not to be used. I don't want a repeat of history with another stick car in her garage bay. She has yet to even try my '04 6 speed, C-5. So perhaps this isn't the car, I'm kind of just keeping my eyes open and not trying real hard, if the right car falls into our lap at a good price, (like the C-5) we'll do something. Thanks for all your help!

A dealer cannot legally sell a car that is unsafe for highway usage, which dry rotted tires constitute. Tell the sales toad you will do the deal ONLY if the car is made safe.

General rule of thumb on value, check local ads for average price, check NADA book, and deduct any cost of repairs from value (ie weatherstrip, tires, etc) to get the final value. Your local dealer does all this, knows what it is worth, and will try to get the best price they can. Negotiate! If you want more ammo on reducing the price, for 100-150 the local chevy dealer will provide you with a list of all the items, from minor to major, that need to be repaired. Present that to the dealer or private owner, and tell them you will give them their asking price less the amount of repairs needed.

If it helps any, as a point of reference I just bought a red '92 6 spd. coupe from a forum member for $10.6K. It's in great shape overall, the interior is nearly perfect, and it has 44K miles on the clock.
Paying just a tad over blue book, I thought it was a pretty good deal for both of us.
The water pump did crap out a week after I bought it though...

I dont know where you are finding these cars at these low prices but that car is only worth what you feel its worth. If it is a one owner car which i will only buy snap it up but off a car lot who knows how many people drove it. Just think you could lease a new one for a mere ten thosand dollars more and run the wheels off of it. SAVE THE WAVE!
