Re: Mobil-1 vs Amsoil (J.H.)
i use to be a dealer for amsoil and the comparison charts they gave me always had mobil 1 second best but not by much. all the others were way down in rankings i think castrol was last. they had amsoil a 10 mobil1 a 9 and the rest were 2's and 3's on a scale of 1-10. my personal opinion is they are both great oils. pick one and stick with it. i use mobil 1 because its easier to obtain almost all autopart stores sell it.

We have not had a presentation here as of late from Amsoil. But if I see one I will comment. It's the weakest part of the product as far as I see it.
I would buy my oil at Walmart if I were you. If they have Amsoil at a good price go ahead as long as it is API approved.

When I went to Carsile this year, I stopped by their booth. I was interested in the Trans Fluid since it is compatable with Type 7176 (chrysler vehicles). I walked up in the middle of a conversation with someone else and the salesman. The customer was asking why you dont see Amsoil in more stores? The saleman explained that Amsoil will make your engine last so much longer and they will not sell parts. Therefore they dont want to carry it. :bs is what I thought of this statement. I went on around and found a Red Line dealer and purchased the 7176 fluid. I think that you are going to be hard pressed to find any compelling (unbias) info. that will show one brand better then another. For some reason or reasons Chevrolet decided to go with Mobil. I feel sure several things influenced their decision. IE availability of oil, cost, reliability, etc. Oh, by the way, I would have purchased Mobil trans fluid, but they dont make it for the Chrysler type 7176. Good luck with your decision.

This is one for consumer report. From the info I have read both are good I have run Castrol in other cars I have owned but not my vette. I had no oil related problems. Which is best? I have no clue. To me it would be which ever is the least expensive. I have been told to use a good filter by more than oneTech as well Change your oil and filter as recomended 3500 or every 6 mo to 7500 or 6 mo which ever comes first.

As long as you change your oil regularly, every 3000-3500 miles, it doesn't really matter. Even Dino oil will be fine with these oil change intervals. After all, you don't really own your vette. You are just the current care-taker till your next dream machine comes along and your current vette is in the hands of the next person, IMHO.

if I recall correctly amsoil is used in jet engines turning 100kplus rpms, the oil is good for people who dont have the time to do the oil changes and that is most all with kids and work but to cut the chase I and my brother use this oil no less than 10k or more the co also can check it to see if it needs changin, but I try to not to go more than this regardless all in all I think it is a superior oil minus the high price.
