Muffler Eliminators Yes or No??
My recently purchased 96 is 100% stock. The stock exhaust flows plenty for the LT4, but it is EXTREMELY quite. Since it is stock, I am having trouble bringing myself to scrap the exhaust system. If I get muffler elims, can the old mufflers be re-installed without anyone noticing? Would it hurt the value since this is truly a one of a kind car (my guess is no, but thought I'd ask some experts here)?
Also, if I do this, I can get it done at my mechanics shop for $75.00 (3" with tips). Is this a good price? Would it give the car a better sound, but without the resonance problems?

It will be louder but not as loud as you might think. If you cut off your mufflers and weld in eliminators you can put the mufflers back but it will not be invisible. The eliminators sound good on a stock cammed LTX with cats.

TIME OUT!!!
L98 exhaust and LT1/4 exhaust respond differently to eliminators.
I hated the result on my LT1. The drone and resonance about killed me. If you have an automatic, it would make it worse.

I did eliminators on my LT1 auto trans. The sound was not bad, I loved the aggressive tone. But, at about 1400 to 1600 rpms, when the torque converter locked up, there was a drone. I did not like that so I ended up shifting down to keep the revs up. I've heard that chambered eliminators are better for that.
Also, when mine were put on the hangers were too long, so when the system heated up and expanded, the hangers hit the frame. That was bad, I had to go in and cut the hangers shorter so if you have it done, make sure there is at least 3/4" between the hangers and the frame.

Putting plugs and wires on your ex vette is a total bitch but lucky for me (or unlucky as many may percieve) my 43 old son is back home with us and is quite helpful, since I don't have good hand strength anymore.

I have a 92 A4 and installed elims when the car was bone stock. It had no effect on power, as measured by dozens of runs at the track, and had a very nice aggressive sound. I kept the original mufflers, which was a good idea. When I installed a cam, the sound became unbearable, so I re-installed the originals.

Thanks for the comments folks!
MarkC4, Thanks for the compliment! The price is really not the issue, rather keeping the car original vs modifying it. Would changing the whole system decrease the value of the car? I just hate to mod the car if it is all stock right now just to get a better engine sound if it will hurt the value.

Yes it would to some people, others would like a car with flashy add-ons.
Back to elims. I figure they are good if your idea of fun is cruising Sonic or Taco Bell.

The people that would consider the car devalued with a Corsa system would be few and far between, IMO but a lot more would dislike the muffler elims. Also, the stock system comes off as a complete unit, so if you have the room you can always keep it for reinstallation. Many do.

I get a buzz right at 2000 rpm. It doesn't bother me any more, though it would be nice to have it done away with. The Ruby had straight pipes and never a resonance buzz. I live 12 hours away from the shop that did the Ruby's pipes, and the shop here that did my Obsidian's pipes was at a loss of what to do. They were cheap, $75. My tips are temporary. I want tips like amminich's. Maybe if I can get the tips changed, I can find a shop that can do something to eliminate the buzz.
I don't like mufflers. I even have muffler elims on my truck, dualed out with glass packs. Ok that's sorta mufflers, but it sounds so goooood. They were my mama's day present from my babydaddy.

The Magnaflow cat back is really just a pair of mufflers, some say they don't get resonance some say they do. Some like the sound, some don't. I'd try and get with someone who has them and take a ride before installing.

Check Mid America and Corvette Central. They have large muffler inventoies. Some people don't like large stainless expensive mufflers. I happen to be one of them.
