Default inexpensive tires?

Well the title says it all. I have a 96 vette and am in need of some new tread. OE size Rear P285/40zr17 and front p255/45zr17. What are some of you running and any suggestions on where to look? I don't want to break the bank on some tires but do want to get something decent. Thanks in advance.

I just ordered a set of Sumitomas from Tire rack for my ZR-1, $380+ $60 shipping to my door. I have them on another car and they're great for the price. There's been quite a few posts about them here.

My Vette is not a daily driver but I've had my Sumitomo's for a few years now, and I'm very happy with them.

I put FALKEN's, stock size, on my '87 coupe daily driver and love 'em. Reasonably priced too.

Seriously, they're a good tire for the $$$
I autocrossed on 712, great overall tire.
The MX's are better if you live in a dry area.

BTW you can rotate them side to side, you just need to demount/remount them.

Sumitomo's here too on my street driven ride. I don't drag or track and they've been great for me.

I'm going to suggest Tire Rack as well, they always have the best prices on tires in my experience.

I checked out tirerack and could not find any Sumitomo's in the size I needed. I tried putting the information in a few times to make sure that I did not mess something up but came out with the same results.

Got mine locally from a friends parts store. Sumitomo's are pretty popular all around the country. Try a local tire discounter you should find them fairly easily.

Don't know what the best price tires are. But last year Sears Auto match the internet price on the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval for me and also was very competitive on mounting and balance. They did ask for the shipping charges the internet wanted . I copy and paste it to notepad and printed it. So expect to pay that too if you can swing the deal with them or some other local company as well. hope this helps you.

Some of the wheel deals on the net come with Sumitomos mounted and balanced. They are in Orlando I think for around a thousand. That would be a good deal if you wanted to get some A-Mold coolness too.

I have used 2 sets of Yokohamas and 2 sets of Kuhmos. I like both tires but the edge goes to the Yoko's.

Michelen is a very good tire in every aspect.
The only tires I'm not real fond of is Fuzion, Goodrich, and Goodyear.
Not bad tires but loud.
