What are the best Tires???
255/45ZR17 - Front
285/40ZR17 - Rear
96 Vette.
What is the best tire out there?
As far as wear, sound, performance/handling?
I am not concerned with a winter tire (In Texas), so what is the best all around tire?
I have been reading up about Dunlop8000s. They seem inexpensive and good.
Help please,
Andy

I wouldn't put dunlops on a honda civic.
I had them and hated the hell out of 'em
they handle like they're coated in grease
especially compared to the Kumho's I have now
the lifespan of the dunlops was pretty pathetic, too.
however, off the line they hooked REALLY well
The Kumhos are the best tire I've e ver had
i havent tried the SV50's (SP?) but a lot of people here swear by them.

ECSTA Supra 712.
p.s.
I have to completely disagree with Smash on the Dunlops. I've autocrossed quite a few times with them, and they handle great. I've gone toe to toe with an NSX, C5s, Lotuses, and more and been right there with them, if not beat them. They stick very well, and give you a great feel for when they will break loose.

I thought the dunlops handled well too, until I got ahold of these Kumhos.
Except when I first got them, i noticed they felt "squishy" when I was doing hard cornering. Did you notice that?
Dunlop ride quality and road noise are definately great though.

Honestly can't say so.

Potenza RE-730's are the best bang for the buck. Had them on my '92, and after the experience, decided that was what we put on the '93 as well when it needed tires a couple months ago. Very good tire overall.

I had Firehawks and loved them. Quiet, great in the rain, and did last longer. I would buy them again....

I got Dunlops also. When I bought my car it had new Dunlops on them. They are alright, but if I had a choice, I would definately go with the Bridgestone Potenzas. They are the best tyres. :yesnod:

Well, I'll chime in on this. I have 275 and 285 SP8000's and think they are a great bang for the buck. Wet or dry, they handle well. They hook up and you can hang it out on the corners. They do not like deep tracks on the freeway though. Better hang on. I am sure that the Bridgestones and Firehawks are probably a better tire, I have heard great things about both. But if $$$ is an issue try the Dunlop's. In the winter I am moving up to different rims and 315's in the rear, by Dunlop. :yesnod: :yesnod:

Different tires perform differently on different cars, and drivers have different expectations of them, so it can only be used as a broad scope of comparison
but look hoiw well the Kumhos do
and they are the cheapest.

I like the Michelin XGT Z4 Pilot's also. Always got decent mileage out of them and they are a great all around tire. Last set of rears didn't last like they should have, and if the next set doesn't do any better, then I might be changing. I'm hoping I just got a bad set.
