First trip to the dragstrip in the old 85
Went to a private track rental today in my 4+3 coupe. It was sponsored by a Mustang forum. To my surprise there was at least 6 or 7 other Vettes there, but I was the only C4...or else I just didn't see anymore...
My "mods" are simple and by most accounts/opinions here, worthless...
12* base ignition timing
K&N filter w/open lid
De-screened maf meter
Throttle Body bypass
Airfoil in throttle body
Walker high flow replacement catalytic converter
Underdrive crank pulley
I also just put on a pair of stock replacement mufflers instead of the muffler eliminators I had been running. The car "feels" like it has more torque than with the elims on it, but it's too darn quiet now, LOL...
Track was Cecil County Dragway, in Northeast, MD. Launch was made by slipping the clutch, the best I could, which caused stinky burned clutch smell every pass. I did no burnout as it wasn't needed. My Comp TA 315/35/17's seemed to hold just fine. I shifted at 4800 according to stock tach. Barely hit 4th gear...
Temperature: 59
Relative Humidity: 67
Absolute Barometer: 17.82
Anyway, first pass I dogged it out of the hole, and it went a 14.20 @ 100.08 with a crappy 2.25 60 foot.
Got back in line and about 15 minutes later went a 13.93 @ 99.53 with a 2.07 60 foot.
Third pass was a slightly spinning 14.24 @ 99.35 with a 2.29 60 foot and I decided to quit while I was ahead since clutch was smelling after every run...I wanted to at least break into the 13's, which I did with my mild mod list and no track runs on the car before today.
Can't wait for the real mods that are coming over the Winter....
Longtubes, Ported plenum, ASM runners, ported Edelbrock base, TrickFlow heads, cam swap (maybe), and a TNT dry nitrous setup to go with the 700R4 swap....
just curious...What ETs/MPHs have others ran with similar mods??

rel3rd, thats pretty decent for a first timer. Definitely get a cam in there once your other mods are in. Porting the base

Melting Slicks
I can't touch the 13's and I've been to several tracks. With my 2:59 rear, I probably won't ever see it ...but getting great gas milage on the road.

What track is that? Looks like a classy joint...
I'll have some track pics soon. They had a trackside photographer there who always does a good job. I told her she'd be able to shoot a Gb worth of pics before I hit the 60 foot markers...LMAO

rel3rd, those are great times. As you can see, the 60' time is everything! I have yet to run in the 13s on street tires. What was your 1/8th mile time? My best was a 8.91 on street tires, tough time getting traction at the track down here.
Now go post in my timeslip thread in C4/Tech.

8.96 @ 78.7
Reaction time (even though it means nothing as far as ET) was surprisingly good for not ever running this particular car before. That run it was a .013...first pass it was a .030, with a .000 being a perfect light.

The wheels are 17x9.5 & 17x11 "old school" American Racing wheels (w/315/35 & 275/40 BFG Comp TA tires)...neither are made anymore, unfortunately...
The day was a blast Pete!!
I was the only C4 there, but there were at least 2 C5's and one C6 there too...Not bad for a Mustang Race...
