Default My Dash Is TICKING!

It sounds like a relay clicking on and off behind the switch panel (DIC?) for the LCD.... Anyone know if there is one behind it? If so what's it for? why is it doing it? How can I stop/fix it?

Earlier I disconnected the battery and alternator plus did a tune up.... anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

There's a horn relay behind the DIC, but can't remember what else...

I know there's a fuse for something behind there, but "could" be causing it to pulse on and off? hmm... horns arent hooked up alrighty I'm gunna go tear the dash apart then pull the bugger out and see if there's any consequences after that.

I think I need to have a sit down chat with my vette.... The ticking has stopped... only seems to do it after the car has been turned on. yep, attacked me with the hood earlier and now the ticking. We need to spend quality time together It appears So far today adjusted the rockers, been attacked by the hood, did a tune up, and just took the cat-back off to have it repaired tomorrow, and now an unusual ticking. Gotta not get so bored on my day(s) off.

That is what I was thinking of also.

edit: re-read and saw horns not hooked up, are you by-passing the VATS and triggered the alarm somehow? this will pulse the relay.

Ya know, that was the first thing that came to mind when I heard it. Ok here's how the car was when I got it.

The horns were not hooked up. Hooked them up and hit the horn button they did not seem to work

Did not need a key to start the car (ignition lock was broke?)

After you turned the car off there was serious of beeps/clicks that sound approx three times then quite (think vats?)

After I hooked up the battery, about an hour or so unhooked, that's when the clicking started (first time it's ever done that since I had it).

Guess my next day off I'll be tearing into the dash to find out where the clicking is coming from it's an electrical click thus I think it's a relay.
Will post more as I venture into this mystical journey

Hummmmm! Sounds like your Digi-teller. You can't see it but it is trying to talk to you.

Sorry! I could not help myself. Forgive me.

My 89 did that occasionally, security light would flash.

If you hear a lot of relays going your battery may be low.

Its the security system. Let the car sit for a minute or 2 and unlock the door with the key. I had same exact problem, security system was activated but horns were not sounding because horns did not work. Unlocking the door with the key deactivates security.

Tried it before I took off for school this mornin and it seemed to have worked then. I'll try it again tomorrow to see if it's a good to go deal.

Thanks for the help all

Same thing for me. Unlock the door with the key and mine would stop ticking, also mine wouldn't crank while ticking.

theres a 10 amp fuse you can pull if you want to get rid of that annoyance all together. some people say their horns quit working after that, but mine hasn't
