Default While buying your 2.0 Gal toilet in Mexico, Can you buy R12 Freon???

I have friends that got tired of their 1.6 gallon toilets, so everytime they go to Mexico they bring back the "Big-Boys", the 2.0 Gallon toilets.
Just curious, if you are certified to buy R12 in the states, can you purchase it in Mexico and bring it back? Almost like the prescriptions and such... Would it be cheaper? Is it legal? Is there a worm in the bottom of the tank? How about Canada? What is the price there?
Just curious....

Up here you can't buy that stuff.....They are very BIG on recovery of the product even if you discharge it into the air the fine is $5,000.00 . Same with R-22. And now they have new stuff called PURON......It'll be out in vehciles soon...They use it as a refridgerant residential and comercial etc, But I heard they will put it into cars soon....With PURON you need new gauges and permits up the ying yang!

I should have clarified, I do have the EPA certificate, I can buy it on Ebay... But I also know that I'm soon going to be in Mexico for a vacation.

- I can buy freon direct from the vendor for $425 for 30lbs. On Ebay it goes for $300 for 30lbs. I just wondered since everything is so cheap in Mexico, maybe you can buy a 30lb for $100 (or cheaper).

- I did the same thing with my eyes. Six years ago, Lasik eye surgery cost $5000 in the states. I went up to Canada and had it done for $1200 (US)... Every Doctor here in the States said "Their lasers don't meet FDA standards".... My Doctor in Canada said, "We don't have to meet FDA standards, we have to meet the Canada equivelent, however our laser was purchased in the States and the laser does meet FDA standards". He further stated that Canada has been performing laser surgery 10 year before the American, because the hold up with the FDA system in the States. Cheaper, more experience, plus I got to use my Health Spending account for Air Fare, Hotels, Car Rental... Heck I got an extremely cheap vacation out of it....

- Lastly, to think we can't get the "Big-Boy" here. This is America! Everything is suppose to be bigger and better.

1.6 gallon toilets? You are flushing a 6.0L LQ4 motor each time you take a **** or a poop. What a waste!!! What other 6.0L motors are they flushing down the sewers nowadays??? Holy crap, if you have a 2 gallon toilet, you are flushing down a Ford 460 down the toilet each time you **** or poop. I'd take the 2 gallon toilets. They flush a lot cleaner too, but they happen to waste more cubic inches.

I just heard something about the 150# capacity of a standard toilet isnt enough for the fat asses in Austrailia, so they are lobbying to get a 330# weight capacity so they stop cracking!!!!

(nothing against Aussies, I'm sure the fat asses here in the US will be gettin' them soon enough)

I have a 1.6 its works great.
My nephew lives in El Paso Tx and he said bringing back Freon from Juraez Mexico is the same as sumggling cocaine.

They sell it everywhere in Mexico. Don't know about the other stuff. Where I live you don't air. Too cold here.

Only time I use it is in the central valley.

I was in Cidiad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico for 3 1/2 years. DO NOT buy the freon down there. They mix it with propane. If you have a leak you are asking for an explosion. It also wears down the compressor faster than pure r12

When R12 was still in demand, it was rumored that most of the shops in San Diego bought it in TJ. It was about 3 Bucks a can at any Mexican Autozone or NAPA or you could pick up a 30lb bottle for maybe $100 - prices tended to be less the further you went into Mexico too. The writing on the cans is in Spanish, but they clearly spellout "Dupont" and as far as I know, the same crap that was setting you back $20/$25 a can here. Part of the forklore of course is that it was somehow contaminated or mixed with something else - or that Dupont had a "special" formula for Mexico. Oh, licensed or unlicensed, it's illegal to bring it back across and it's hardly worth the risk, though must of the published busts have been on the other Coast. As far as I know, Autozone is still trying to unload it's US supply where it's anywhere from $10 to $15/can these days - about the same as R134.

I can only imagine the eyes of both the "freon mule" and the customs agent when they perform a "cavity" search.

I heard that Autozone had it also, but the Autozone guy here did a seach and said non of the stores had it in the area.

I usually have to ask for the Mgr - show my a/c license, driver's license, provide my SSN, and then make some promise about leaving the Vette to the guy in my will. Even with that, I've had them call the EPA to verify the license. Went to 3 different Autozone's once in the same day (as each only had a can or two) - none of them charged the same price - low was $10; high was somewhere around $15.

Do you happen to have the UPC # ??? I just went to Autozone and ask the guy to do a regional wide search. He said without the UPC, he couldn't do it. He said that in the Autozone CPU system, you can't just type in "R12". He said that in there system, you can't just to a "word search"...... I don't know if this was or if he was telling the truth...
