My 90' had the following repairs in the 2 years I had it (that I remember):
brake booster

slave master
master cylinder
heater core
all u-joints
water pump
all wheel bearings
one headlight motor
radiator
A/C compressor
2 clutches
clutch fork
1 flywheel
2 thermostats
PROM
clogged cats----new exhaust
various relays
This is off the top of my head

Guess I am lucky! ;)
Had my '88 for three years, put 24,000 miles on it and only had to replace alternator!
As part of regular maintenance, I've replaced all the hoses, belts and thermostat. Changed all fluids to synthetic.
Car has 92,000 miles now

Re: how often does your vette break??? (My 95)
Well, I've had my '92 since new so it seems like a lot of repairs over time. It's had the usual from what I can tell. Without taking out my paper work:
3 rebuilt transmissions
Several alternators
Starters
Optisparks
ECM
I don't know,.....the list goes on, but it doesn't matter...it's what I want to drive, so it's worth it. :D

Re: how often does your vette break??? (My 95)
Well, I hate to answer this because It may bring me some bad luck ...but here goes.
at 11,000 had to replace the alternator (Waranty)
at 46,000 had to replace the Battery (non warranty)
besides oil changes and tires, thats it. :yesnod: Currently at 51,000 and its 5 years old. Not too bad if I say so myself :yesnod:

Re: how often does your vette break??? (CowboyNVette)
1991 with 28,000 miles now:
Battery (no choice)
Tires (could have waited)
Oil Cooler hoses (well known LT5 problem, could have waited)
Improved chip from GM (helped idle and starting, $47)
Engine computer (fix hi idle problem, $189, needed)
In short, none that deadlined the car, but the hi idle made the car impracxtical to drive in town. In all fairness, a breakdown, I guess.
Obviously changed fluids, etc, so far have stuck stubbornly with GM specs.
I gotta tell you, my first Vette, and the only thing ,ore impressive than it's ruggedness is the terrific driveability. My friend with a 10 year old ferrari trades with me often. When I want to feel good, I just get in and go!

1988, owned 3 years, total 35k miles now, replaced serpantine belt, didn't get rid of noise, had alternator rebuilt, cured it, nothing else. Total 7k miles I've put on (yes, in 3 years!)

Re: how often does your vette break??? (My 95)
My 86 never breaks (knock on wood). When I bought it with 68K I replaced the MAF relays, the EGR sensor, a throttle body coolant hose and a bunch of light bulbs. It's my daily driver. It still has the origional alternator on it!
The 94, I still havent got all the bugs worked out, just a possesed cruise control left to iron out!

Re: how often does your vette break??? (moffitt)
have only had it a couple months, still trying to get the inherited problems worked out...but it seems like there are alot of them. I just keep picturing it "done" and it all seems worth it...so far.

Re: how often does your vette break??? (purple jinx)
My parents were against me getting a Vette b/c she heard from some guy that they have terrible reliability. I've had my 95 for 3 months now, 50k miles, no problems whatsoever, and I drive her pretty hard

Re: how often does your vette break??? (Drewdog)
I haven't noticed anything (except Opti & maybe the Bose) that is particullarly unreliable. I think a lot of it is how the car is used.
Hard use (and adding hp) requires a lot of parts changing. I have not seen too many little old ladies that just use the car to go to church on this forum.
Buying a high mileage used vette is not without risk in this department.
