Don't Like To Drive My Car on Real Hot Days...
I really hate driving my car on really hot days (90 and up) because:
- The brakes heat up too fast and start to fade
- My roof panel squeaks and rattles like crazy even after recently replacing the windshield/roof weatherstrip and lubricating with silicone grease.
- The air conditioner struggles to cool down the car.
- The heat and dust is murder on the finish.
Is it me or are these and other hot weather problems common? Any solutions to some of them, in particular the brakes and roof problems?
Thanks!

I don't like to drive on really hot days either. The car heats up too quickly, and do I ever sweat in there, also the a/c doesn't work that good.

Hello,
MSshipon, I'm not sure if your car is tinted, i forgot cause
as i'm writing this the post doesn't show your car's pic.
But if you tint your back window, and do a uv-block only tint in the front two
windows, then that should take care of it. It's illegal to do the fronts
in some states, like in california, but i always do it light enuff, where they
(cops) usually don't bother me. I'm gonna take my corvette to a person that
was recommended to me by a friend, but i'm giong to stay with the car while
it's done. :jester
Also, your A/C may need attention, maybe it's low on refrigerant, or the flaps
may not be synchronized. I have a 94 and don't have problems keeping car
cool even in 90 degree or more weather, and my windows arent' tinted yet.
Good luck !

Mine runs great in the hot weather. The coolant sits at 198 degrees, the new PF brake pads bite, and the A/C runs awesome. As for dust and the sun, there isn't much difference between 70 degree days and 90 degree days if the sun is beating down on the car.

well here in Fresno if I didnt drive my car on hot days it would be parked all summer, since I cleaned between my radiator and condenser on the real hot 100+ days the top stays up and the a/c goes on car runs real cool now. Early in the morning and in the evening the top goes down and I get to enjoy the convert, I dont have any other problems driving in the hot weather.

Hey Bret... what's the deal with the Performance Friction brake pads? Do you have them all around? Do they leave much brake dust compared to stock pads? Did you get them from AutoZone?
Hey guys... What about the squeaking, rattling roof panels (coupe, of course)?

94VetteFern... no my windows aren't tinted, but I was thinking about doing at the rear hatch window. Can you give me some details on different products, quality, where to get it done, how much it should cost, etc?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I agree. 94 today before the downburst rains begin. The brakes felt softer today, the auto AC was on full the whole way home, and I was watching the digital Cool gauge go up while in stop and go. Fla is just brutal in August.

The AC in my 95 works great! And if it can handle the heat down here in New Orleans, it can handle it just about anywhere!!

Here is when I dont drive my car.. I live in NY
January Too Cold, & snow
Feb. Snow, & Ice
March Salt on the roads
April April showers..
May Too much pollen in the air
June Usually a lot of bugs in the air, don't want to ruin the paint.
July Too HOT
Aug Too muggy
Sept Too many people on the roads looking at the foliage
Oct Getting it ready for winter
Nov Waxing it, & putting the car cover on, (after its in the garage)
Dec. Its looking like snow, cant take a chance..
Other than the above, I drive that sucker every chance I get :seeya

The 85 really heats up on 95+ days, and running the AC causes the engine temp to CLIMB like crazy. I don't drive it on 95+ days. Today was 100 and I drove the Ruby, no problems  The fact that the AC cools the car down is very

These Vettes are hotter than living hell in scalding weather. I had a glass top on my last one - an 87. All I have to say is that I LOVE my hard top I have now! If I get another Vette that is not a convertable (which I am sure I will) I'll always want a hard top. Glass tops aren't all that special to me.

I absolutely love driving with the roof off on a nice sunny day. It's the 95+ days like the past few days that kills. It's very hard to look cool stuck in traffic with the hot sun beating down on you, while you're soaked in sweat and fumes. :( By the way, I use Bendix which is pretty darn good cold and hot. Give it a try.

Try this place,
It's Formula one (1) Window Tinting.
They are a profesional company i've had do several of my cars, and
they have done an excellent job. These were new cars at the time,
acura integra GSR, Honda Prelude, stuff like that. They asked to
leave the car, never had any issues. But with the Corvette, I would
not leave it anywhere unattended, no matter who is doing the
tinting, even if you have to take a day off to stay with the car. Check out the website and see if they have a location near you,
you may have to email them and find out. The URL link should work, if not i'll try again, or you can just copy
and paste it. If they don't have a location near you,
ask around for recommendations see if someone can point you
to someone they trust that's worked on their car to work
on yours for window tinting. Good luck! !

Re: Don't Like To Drive My Car on Real Hot Days... (94VetteFern)
Here in Chicago we had about two weeks straight of near 100 degrees. Then last night we had a massive thunderstorm that came through and raised a lot of hell, and now we are in the 70s! I'm glad too, I lost the front left screw to my top and it started leaking when I was testing out tire adhesion in bad conditions ;)

i may have a fix for your roof rattle as i had the same think a few months back,,
next time you take the roof out unscrew the plastic coves where the top meets the winsheild frame.. you will see the metal mounts for the roof, make sure they are as tight as possible... they are on there with torx heads bolts.. mine was so loose i am suprised the roof didn't fly off.. the car is now rock solid with no rattles or squeaks..
i suspect a lot of cars that are 5 plus years old would benefit from this fix..

Re: Don't Like To Drive My Car on Real Hot Days... (Ruby6spd)
Thanks for the advice, Ruby6spd. I know mine are a little loose, but I thought they were that way to help align the bolts when putting the roof on. I'll definitely give it a try.
