Default Winter Storage: Full or Empty

Ok, time to put her away for the year up here in Michigan. I typically fill the car up and add stablizer to the fuel. I had a getlemen tell me he stores his empty for fear the fuel will gum up over the winter.

If it matters, mine is stored in an unheated garage and I typically start it from time to time and let it run for 10 to 20 minutes.

Which way is correct, full or (nearly) empty?

Thanks for the input.

The only way to go is full with Stabil.

Full will keep condensation from getting in the tank and rusting it out eventually.

Full, and add stabil. Don't run the car during the winter months unless you are going to bring everything up to full operating temps. I never run mine during the winter . Just let it sleep. I read that if you keep starting it without getting it good and hot you won't burn the contaminants out of the oil. Just something I read quoting a GM engineer.

Full with Stabil.

We don't have to worry about rust because our tanks are plastic on the inside.

Default Okay, I might get flamed here...

But I top off my gas tank with Shell V Power. No stabil. I figure that modern gasolines have enough additives and cleaning agents in them taht four or five months of storage isn't going to mean much. I mean, they store gasoline for a better part of a year in bulk storage facilities.. and then you put it in your gas tank! As long as I you use a good, premium fuel, I think that Stabil in unneccesary. I do, however, use stabil in my small engines, but mostly because I use a lower grade of gas with less additive in them...

I also run my car once a month, at idle, for about 30-40 min to get everything up to temp during the winter. I just feel better knowing that things circulate at least once a month...

Not to mention that if you fire it w/out driving at idle only, chances are that condesation will sit in the exhaust/mufflers regardless of full operating temp. JMO
