c5west body kits
I looked at the c5west body kits that make the front, rear and doors of your c-4 look like a c-5 and had seriously mixed reactions to them. For starters, if you really liked the look of a c-5 better, why wouldn't you just get a c-5? It can't really be much cheaper to pay $1300 to $1700 for the kit, have it painted, and apply all the parts, then just buying a c-5. And then when you are finished what do you have? It seems like maybe you have the worst of two worlds. We all know the frame of the c-5 is stiffer, and provides a better handling platform, and we all know the later engine makes more power. But we also know that the c-5 has some serious design weaknesses, visually. If it were me, I would want to make a c-5 look like a c-4, not the other way around. True it would be a custom car, and I can see the appeal of that, but this is sort of what the import bling bling guys are doing is it not? Why not just be proud of what you have in a c-4: a really sexy, great looking sports car, which is becoming more classic everyday, that still gets alot of heads turning your way. Do you think it would be easier, or harder to sell a c-4 with a nicely done c-5west conversion kit applied? Which would be worth more, a stock c-4 or one with all the c-5 converison parts nicely applied?

id pay more for a stock one, just think how much value that car would lose in the long run, to me thats like making a lambo look like a viper, not that is really possible but you get the point

I happen to like the looks of the C5 -- the big rear is very "form follows function" racy and the treatment of the body sides is much more contemporary. Having said that, I think the only way I'd consider the kit would be if somehow my C4 had one side (including front and back bumper caps) pretty well torn up in an accident -- and the car was not totaled. In that case, the incremental cost would be very low and I'd have a unique car.
As to quality -- I've never seen a C4-C5 conversion in person, but I have seen pix where it looks pretty good -- probably depends on the skills of the body shop.
Finally, we all know basic C4 drivers like mine are not collectible and may not be for a long time. I'd bet a C5 kit would not lower the value of any basic C4 that's been in an accident serious enough to require that many panels to be replaced.
Anybody out there agree with me????

C5west has alot of neat stuff but some of it is crazy. did you see where they take a coupe and cut the rear pillar off!! all that just to remove the rea glass and put that rear cover on? ugly!!!!!!!
modes like that will destory the value of your vette! if you want a C5 i would pay the money and get one and not butch up a C4.

I guess I can kind of see that if you have a wrecked c-4 to play with, it might make a fun project to install c-5 body kit. The same goes for the roadster kit. If the back glass is broken and the car is generally a mess, I might find that fun. I would not take a good c-4 apart to simply change it though. I guess the more c-4s are disfigured, the more valuable a stock on e will be in later years.

I saw a c4 at school that had the c5 rear, it looked like flimsy plastic, not glass. I haven't had a chance to chat with the guy who has the car, the only other time I saw it, we were both pulling out from the same street going <-- --> directions.
It would have looked better if was stiffer

Ok now take an 84 C4 with a bad front bumper that needs a paint job any way get the kit for $850 with everything and a C5 take off exhaust for $50 and you end up with what I had. I can say that I got more complements of the 84 then I ever have so far on my 94. That’s the great part about owning your own car is the fact that you can do what you want to with it. I don't spend a whole lot of time concerning my self about another persons taste unless they ask a question about "do I like it or not”, but hey that’s just me.

THere's a local couple that have a genuine late 80's Callaway roadster I saw at a cruise in awhile back-Had the C5 body kit-They did a good job, but IMO ruined a collectible car. Next time I see it I'll snap off some pics.

That being said, my cuz has an 84 with a C5 kit painted black. Whereever we go, his "C45" will always get the heads to turn before my DRM 86 will. No doubt the C5's looks will always get the looks.
Bottom line is he has a five thousand dollar C5. That includes the price of the car!!

Main Entry: pose
Function: noun
1 : a sustained posture; especially : one assumed for artistic effect
2 : an attitude, role, or characteristic assumed for effect
to mean an adopted way of speaking or behaving. POSE implies an attitude deliberately assumed in order to impress others.
jrrifle, you don't have to feel bad, as your cuzzin' will be left explaining why his posed-up "C5" has a crossfire engine with all of 205 horses, while yours is the real deal -- with no intent to deceive -- an honest to goodness C4 with 230 horses.
