Default 4thgen rims on a 86 vette...

Hey guys, figured I'd register and ask a question here.

A guy I work with has an 86 Vette. I'm going to be upgrading my wheels soon and he wants my stock 16'' 5-star rims.

I know the 4thgen fbody rims "fit" but I haven't really seen pics. Will the offset make them look stupid? I don't know much about the C4's.

Thanks guys!

Pics of my rims can be found Here if they're needed.

They fit and look really good, but you'll need to back space them for the offset

I used to have a neighbor that put the 5 stars from a TA on his 87 and they fit and looked decent... although it is obvious what kind of car they came from so it wasn't something that I appreciated.

But they weren't sucked into the wheel wells too bad?

I don't care what they look like on the car, it's his car..I just want to know if they look ok fitment wise.

If he has to run some type of spacer I doubt he'll be interested.

He'll need adapters "Spacers" are typically a disc of aluminum that slips on the studs between the hub mounting flange and the wheel. Adapters bolt to the studs on the hubs and have a set of studs for attaching the wheel to the adapter.

84-87 C4's require a 38mm offset to make the wheels sit properly in the wheelwell. Offset is the distance between the mounting flange surface of the wheel and the wheel centerline. Late F-body wheels are typically 56mm so a 3/4" spacer will be needed.

Vette Brakes has them, as does Mid-America and Eckler's; expect to pay a couple hundred or so. You can also find them on eBay. Some race sanctioning bodies will not allow them for competition use.

As far as safety is concerned they should work fine for street use and some "spirited driving", but I would go with a brand new set from a reputable vendor.
