Default shop tried to bs me on cat install.

well i have a 94 vette and went to take the left cat out and got all but 2 bolts out. the ones on the clamp closest to the rear. they were sticking out and had torq fiting on the end. well i put a torq socket on and tried to turn it but it didnt want to budge. so i gave up put everything back on and took it to a shop. agreed to 85 for install. well he tried to call me and bs me that it wasnt a direct fit and it didnt come with the right hardware. when i told him that i tried it about 2 hours prior and told him what i ran it to the truth trickled out and he busted the bolts off on the clamp. he then took the next 2 hours to fix it and when i went to pick it up the reciept said 85 plus 9 dollars for an oil filter 4 dollars for hardware and 5 dollars for environmental disposal fee. i changed the oil 6 hours prior and it was in no way in the way of getting the cat off. i argued with him and he blew and told his assistant to lock up the shop hes going home. well since it would be more trouble not to pay him and have my car in his custody till monday i paid it. im thinking about calling the better buisness buro. i hate having some one else work on my car. it came to 113. from 85. so 30 bucks in little fees. what do you all think. oh and the cat i got was a pos. its inlet squeezes down from 2.75 to 2 inches. its small and i can notice and little differance in performance. will it hurt the motor if one side it flowing better than the other.

uh, wow. We need to introduce you to Mr. Enterkey...

However, the shop owner ripped you off. Did you pay by plastic? If so, dispute the charge, otherwise, your boned. Sorry.

its not a good thing at all to have different size cats, I'd be more concerned about that than the extra 30bucks, wouldnt be so bad if he just did it right, this guy's obviously a tard, and you now know not to take anything to him again.....

First go to the bank and put a stop payment on the check your about to write him for the full amount. Then try to reason with him and see if he'll come clean and drop the excess charges. If he does, write a different check or pay cash. If he still insists on being a dirtbag, give him the "check" and take your Vette home.

After he's ready to talk you can mention the BBB and other means of making him see the light.

the shop dude learned a lesson.
no basket case jobs with customer supplied pos parts.
we all must pay for our lessons.he shoulda just sucked it up and charged the agreed amount and chaulked it up to experience.
i wouldnt recommend facing a judge on a vandilism charge over 30 bucks.
suck up your lesson too,the next time you need exhaust work use a muffler shop.you wouldnt go to a foot dr for an eye infection would ya?

btw, your recommending fraud.i think maybe even felony type.
we had a customer write a check for a dozer once then stop payment on the check after he got the cat out to his mine.
troopers helicoptered in and arrested him and flew him straight to the clink.
i think the credit card then dispute it trick is probably the best way to go.
the brick would be better than a bum check

Unbelieveable..I would dispute the oil change since you gave no authotization for him to do that and was not part of what you took the car in for. Don't let them get away with it.

Sure the charge is posted to your account by now, but you can still dispute it. You can honestly claim that he ripped you off, and by threatening to close the shop he was unreasonably forcing you to pay the extra charges. Don't roll over on this one, and don't due anything criminal either.

hmm,yea he did get scorched.the shop should have stood by his quote.
but pretending to pay so you can gain posession and never entinding to pay the bill is illegal.
you can "promise" to pay and then take posession and then its on him to try and prove you owe him money but by signing a check and then stopping payment you got this big signature of guilt there.burden would then fall on you when he called the cops.
sucks in this scenario but the law protects a shop owner from being frauded in this manner.if it didnt no shop around would ever take a check.
im no attorney, plus i havent used a checkbook in 20 years so i should just shut up :o
9 bucks for an oil filter, can you beleive that ....and asked for a muffler change.

Call the triple "B" on that B! Then go get the correct cat and put it on yourself before the bolts weld in again.
