Greenwood hood louvers
Before I cut holes in my ZR1 hood can someone who has Greenwood hood louvers tell if they really reduce underhood temps significantly? I don't think they look bad on a vett. but I just don't want to cut holes, spend the time and money if they really don't work well. Thanks Jim 90 ZR1 red and grey 9200 miles.

They do but I don't have any numbers to give you from mine. I have headers and a high compression stroker so I have more heat than most. Once other guy stated they do too here. I remember some other (when I was considering) with a super charger stated it lowered his coolant temps 10 degrees or so. I can see the heat waves coming out of the louvers distorting my vision when I am at a stop light.
I guess you would feel more comfortable if someone could give some before and after numbers. One other benefit is that vents the engine compartment at high speed so you won't get lift.
Who else can comment?

I also have no numbers or data but they do seem to lower under hood temps, and they look great doing so.
If they didn't work I would think the C6R & C5R Race cars wouldn't of gone through the trouble of cutting up their hoods.

I've also considered getting them. How hard are they to install, and where do you get them? Do you have to repaint the entire hood, or just paint the louvers to match?

The instructions on cutting the holes can be intimating but if you study the intructions it will make more sense. I cut and glued them in myself. I had them painted by the pros. You just paint the louvers with no hood repainting.
I have some pictures of them installed on my website.

I had a body shop put them in when I was getting my Vette painted.
I didn't see them cut my hood up................which was probably better for my nerves.

[QUOTE=ericcer]I got mine here http://greenwoodvette.com/options.htm
The hood louvers on here say both functional and non functional. I would say you might want to give Greenwood a call or email. They might be able to give you the kind of data you are looking for, and how functional they really are. Good Luck with your decision.

I've also got some other ideas for accomplishing this that wouldn't change the outward appearance at all but would involve some minor body mods.

call me a dumbass but how does that lower underhood temps when it is over the wheel well which has weatherstripping around the cutout so there isnt really any connection to the underhood compartment. am i making any sense here?

From the pics, it looks like the water is drained out to the wheel well, but there is an opening on the inside of the "shield" that looks like it provides access for heat to escape up the vents.
