C4R Pics
Ive been looking around for pictures of a C4R if it existed. Ive seen a few pics of C4s in racing garb but nothing showing a C4R. Did the car exist and if anyone can direct me to some pics I'd appreciate it.

I was asking that EXACT same question a long time ago. Pictures of it online were really hard to find and there isn't much in it in books, but a year and a half ago I went to Corvettes At The Diamond and sure enough after parking my Corvette I rounded the corner and found one. I'll save you the trouble:
You can see on my avatar that I have a Greenwood C4-R body kit, but this beauty was ridiculous with modifications (obiviously)

That 1st one is one of the CERV cars. I would not call it a C4R i don't believe it has much of anything in common with the C4.
The other racing one shown is as close as you will find. I don't believe there ever was a factory C4R so to speak.

The engine in this car was a V6 turbo that was Duntov's fixation at that time. Chevrolet engineering eventually went with the LT5, the GenII LT1, and then the Gen III, staying true to small block power for Corvettes.
My reference is from Dave Mclellan's book Corvette from the Inside .
The real C4 racers from the factory were the Corvette Challenge cars. They were totally production cars with safety equipment and factory built to standard spec engines. They had to race in their own series because Porsche whined so loudly to SCCA they banned the C4 from racing. So someone had the bright idea for a spec series of C4s. Those cars really are seriously undervalued as collectibles and almost anyone could afford to buy one. We saw the 5 (count them 5) Corvette challenge racers in Chip Miller's collection on Friday. Lance Miller beats on one fo them just for fun. Check this post on our visit :Mystey Cruise and End of mystery cruise - with Lance responding
There will be a boatload of Corvette Challenge cars at Carlisle this year.

I found that book great. Wish I had it for an autograph when I met the author at Laguna in 2002 at the historic races. Great book, great guy, great buy.
The story of JIngles and the lads testing it and moving the battery and tilting the radiator even more to give it less of a radar signature, is one of the best. Corprate holliganism! Gotta love it.
Really opened my eyes to just how much car the C4 really is. Prior to looking for a new ride in '02 I didnt know much about the car. As you all know it kicks *** and any 'normal guy' can afford it and work on it(if have the hands the size of an 8yr old youd really be in luck).
I recall the SCCA and Corvette challenge I jsut couldnt find a GT1 C4 and now i know why. Ill use one of those for the wallpaper. I think my GF is getting tired of the current pics/theme.

The Vettes that raced back during that body style were not called C4R's they were called "Corvette Challange" cars...and had a series all their own.
Production: 1 of 30
All 1989 Challenge Cars had the new ZF six-speed manual transmission, and a new adjustable suspension system, Option RPO FX3. This permitted three variations of suspension control, regulated by a console switch. The Corvette Challenge Series ended at the close of the 1989 season, but Corvettes continued to race in the SCCA World Challenge Series.

There was a company selling these cars in kit form for awhile back in the mid 80s and were intended for the street.

This car was in an IMSA class that is now, for all purposes, the ALMS class called LMP or prototype class. Cars not based on production models. The last car using full body work in this class was the beautiful Bentley EXP Speed 8, which won the 2003 24 hours of LeMans.
Too bad nobody runs full bodywork cars in this class anymore. But I always thought the Corvette GTP was a very cool looking car. And I also agree with FELNGR8, Corvettes From The Inside is a great book for any Corvette owner or enthusiast to have.
