I really like the 505A rims from these guys, so I think i'm gonna do it. Has anyone put 18x10's and 18x11's on their vette and everthing worked/fit fine? Thanks

Here is a link to check the 505A's out.

Even though the HRE's will be AT LEAST 50% more, I agree.

Even with some HRE's being banned at track events? People had them falling apart, and the Viper club banned them for being unsafe.

Looks yes, but safety "

EDIT: Here's a link to the Audi post

You'll need to back up this statement with some proof. I've not heard of this before and need to know if it is fact.
Please post some links....

I read all the posts on the Audi site.
One guys says Viper organization verbally banned HRE's.
Another guys posts that organization's published rules: no ban on any wheel.
One guys says his girlfriend's HRE's corroded from road salt, and that their construction is crap because they don't clearcoat the backsides.
Another says two of his HRE centers cracked.

I still don't see any undisputable evidence that HRE's are more failure-prone than any other brand or have been banned.
I am very interested, since I have this wheel on my own car.

I own a set of HRE 545's, 17x9.5 and 17x11. Fully polished they were over 4k for the set, customer service isn't that great, and you still don't have 18's. I don't own a set of CCW's but I've called a couple of times with questions and learned a lot each time. The HRE's look great, but I'd go with CCW if I were in the market. I'd really like to see a C4 with SP 500's. Good luck, and be sure to post pics.

Looking closely at the broken center section in the lower left corner of this picture, and at the hardware on this wheel, I have to express my doubts that this is an HRE wheel. As for the second picture, I'd like to see the whole wheel (was it curbed, wrecked, potholed??) before I'd admit that as evidence for the prosecution.

I have to ask this of all the anti-HRE people that seem to be coming out of the woodwork as of late (not only on this forum but others): why didn't we hear of this long ago if, as you say, HRE's have always had a problem?
If the issue at hand was the durability of, say, Fikse wheels, would we now be seeing posts on the forums saying, "Yeah, I had problems with my Fikse's, too!" ???

I went through the HRE shop before I made my decision on which wheels to buy, as well as the Kinesis shop. I could see no difference in the materials/processes used. I have worked for an aerospace manufacturing company for nearly 30 years and know a little bit about what to look for. Unless HRE is skimping on the heat-treating (done by an outside vendor) of it's materials (and it's possible), I couldn't detect any faulty processes.
One of the big gripes I hear on the forums concerns HRE's susceptibility to corrosion. Aluminum wheels are all susceptible to this.... brake dust, moisture, heat, difficulty in cleaning contribute to the problem. Are HRE's more susceptible than all other wheels? I don't know. I do know this: I have had mine for two years, pull them off every 5000 miles, carefully inspect them, and clean and wax all surfaces including the backsides. The only corrosion I've seen is a slight hazing on the polished (non-clearcoated) outer rim, which is easily removed with an aluminum polish.
For me anyway, the jury is still out. At least until I get more information.
HRE....I sure would like to see you step in on this and respond to the charges!

What's going on here, ynk1121??

I just compared this picture with the full-line HRE catalog. This is not an HRE wheel, even though it appears to be wearing an HRE center cap.
Go on HRE's website and look at the location of the lug holes in relation to the slot in the spokes.
My opinion is that neither of these pictures is of an HRE wheel. Feel free to form your own opinion....please.

Apparently, that's about all there is to this thing: some bogus pictures and a lot of second-hand "stories".
I just got a reply from HRE on this subject and have asked for permission to post their reply on this forum. I think it will go a long way towards clearing this issue up...at least for Corvette Forum members who read it.

UPDATE: HRE has a policy of not engaging forum threads (and they explained why), but have given permission for me to paraphrase what they said about banning and HRE wheels:
1) Seven years ago, VRL did indeed ban HRE wheels from their events, based on one failed wheel. This wheel is no longer made by HRE. The VRL has since allowed the HRE Comp Series wheel.
2) Neither IMSA nor the Porsche Club of America have ever banned HRE wheels.
3) HRE plans to release an official response to this issue by the end of the week.

There was much more to their response, but this is the gist of their position. Draw your own conclusions.
Me? I'm no longer worried about my HRE's.

EDIT: Feel free to call Alan Peltier at (760) 598-1960 if you have questions. He is the VP of Operations & Engineering at HRE.
