Saturday I trade into a Z06, goodbye 87 & 81
Quick somebody tell me a reason I shouldnt do this:
On Saturday I have the opprtunity to trade in my 87 and 81 and a little cash for a 2001 Z06 w/47K miles.
I'm torn, I always wanted to have vette collection but I really dont have the room and I really only ever drive the 87 anymore.
The deal:
87 red/black 129K 20 footer, runs great, needs rubber but nothing else.
81 two tone silver-blue/blue, 69k, runs OK but is about ready for a rebuild another 20 footer
15K cash
for a
2001 black/black-red 47k Z06, imaculate, new F1's and all the other normal Z06 options.
What would you do if keeping all three isnt an option?

I can't disagree with JB. In a way, the Z06 is an updated version of the C4s. Not super-refined like the standard C5. It's got bite and not just power wise.
I guess if money's not the question, I'd say, go for it, too.
One thing I've learned: once you have had a car, unless it's a one-off car, you can always find another one, somewhere, someday, if you want it. You've had your two; you can't have three Corvettes and you haven't had a Z. See my logic?
Good luck and tell us where it's going.

thats what I figured most folks would say, Ive said for years that the only I give my up my vettes if for super clean Z.
I'm not hurtin' but cash is still hard to come by and with the way businesses operate now, (nice to have a cash buffer), I'm afraid to hit my savings that hard. So I called my bank and they immediaty gave me a loan voucher for the Z at 4.1%.
its like things are falling togther to easy......

So, when things fall together too easily, what do you do? Stand back, take a deep breath, and think. Think again. And then make a new decision. It could be the same one, or it could be different.
Just ask yourself the question: am I minimizing some risk or outcome? Call your best friend and ask him/her to answer the question. If the answer is no, continue forward. No regrets. Don't say a month from now, geez, if only I'd thought of THAT one!
And we all wish you luck. REally!!

If you can't find a way to keep all three(or at least two), I wouldn't do it.
The '87 isn't worth much in todays market, the '81 is slowly climbing. While true the C5's are dropping, I don't know if I'd want just one vette, though the Z is nice.
As mentioned above, some had an oil burning problem.

It would be hard to say no to a black Z06. Follow your gut instict on this. Jus t because you can doesn't mean you should. However if the $$ end is doable and you have to have it (you have to )then get it. Make sure you can get a GM warranty. You wouldn't want to foot the bill for some of the repairs. (I hear they have 11 computers)Check the service history

A friend has an 01 it burns oil. It uses about a qt. every 1500 mi. or so. GM has a service bullitin on the problem they say any more than one qt. per 1000 mi. and they will rering it. He keeps an eye on his oil and is other wise very happy! He traded a 35th annv. for it. Before that he had a 67 coupe. O.K. here's My logic...I've owned a 79 (for 11 yrs.) a 90 (for 5 yrs.) and now the 95. Each car was a fun car to drive. Each car was a major up grade from the last. Each time I was sad to see the old one go and wanted to keep ect...but couldn't justify having more than one so the old one had to go...I never looked back. I would trade my 95 for a Z06 in a heart beat.

I DO like the "cuisine", as in the cuisinarts's suggestion. Don't know why I didn't think of it.
See if you can get a GM (and GM only, not some mickey mouse 2nd party insurance policy) extended warranty. Granted, this is gonna cost you. But if you can get say, a 5 yr/50K miles above what you've got, this could be very good. It may cost a grand, but think about oil burning/consuming---what would that cost?
By Friday (Ed, you realize that's still either A) two, long days off or B) only two days away?), you'll know what to do. I, frankly, wish it to you. Gotta wave!!!
