Default Oil Change

Can one get to the filter of an LT1 buy raising the vette up a few inches with a plank. I thought maybe I could drive it up on a board to raise it a few inches to reach under there to get to the oil filter. I dont really wanna use a floor jack. I dont wanna scrap the bottom. Is it possible to crawl under there to get it done?

You'll need more than a plank will give you.
A good set of ramps will meet your needs.

I've done it many times. Drive it up on a couple of 2x6's. then you can reach under and R&R the filter.

better yet, just lie on the ground and have someone drive over you, then you wont have a problem crawling under there

Hell NO bro!! I tried that!!! Now granted I'm a fat azz **** so I was a giant speed bump. I'd recommend parking the car on the roof... tons of room for reach then!!!

To answer your question... yes planks willwork, but they need some big lift to them

I'm sure there's a couple of potholes in New Jersey that you could park over. Then you would have plenty of room underneath.

Lift up a manhole cover and have somone park the car over you. The bonus is you won't have to dispose of the used oil!

What would be better, an oak plank or a pine one. Or ramps, metal or plastic? What about a filter wrench, strap type or bottom type? AC Delco or Fram? Synthetic or dino? Cotton rags or polyester to clean up? GOJO or LAVA? SK or Craftsman?

Looks like Darth should have been reading instead of posting. I must read 2-3 hundred posts for each one I make I think he makes 2-3 hundred for each one he reads.

Pep boys have a decent set of plastic ramps that were posted about here. I bought them and they work great for oil changes.

Default why not jackstands?

What's wrong with jackstands? It's easy enough to get the car up there, even though the first time is a little unnerving. If you do use ramps, sometimes you can put 2 x4 in front of the ramps to step the car up to meet the ramp angle if your car is lowered.

I've been able to reach under and do it without raising the car at all. It's a tight fit but I can reach the drain plug and filter by reaching under the car.

relating to the person who started the thread, THIS is the funniest line I've read in a LONG time - I laughed so hard I literally fell out of my chair in fact, this is absolutely pricless

darth, unless you're goofy skinny as a pencil just go out and get yourself a set of ramps or jackstands. and i have no idea what you're talking about regarding the scraping of the bottom when using a floor jack, never heard of this concern in my life.

i still don't beleive you even have a vette to begin with

I couldn't find any planks small enough to fit under mine so I just turned it upside down and set it on a soft surface so I wouldn't scratch the paint.

Good luck!
