Yeah, most I've seen were just pushed down (which I think looks anything but factory) they look really well fitted. Just curious, any bondo?

BONDO? What is that? lolol A large bead (1" or so) was laid and sanded all of the way to the joint leaving the tiniest of filets. A panel bond material was used also, the bondo was used to smooth it out as it dries very rough. So yes there is a minute amount of bondo, but I like the look much better. When done it will look as if it came that way. Still raised, but solid looking. I wish I would have gotten a picture of the process to give you a better idea.

Doug

ps. as for color it is going to be a deep pearl blue........

Decided on a deep pearl blue, it is a variant of a color called Sonic Blue, going to use a bright clean pearl silver for the stripes, the hashmarks are still undecided, probably stay with a charcoal type color. All the reds i liked were very very expensive, and I couldn't get my daughter to buy off on green. I was outvoted by my daughter who someday gets to call it hers. She helped pick the color. It will definitely be very nice! I had alot of imperfections and stuff that bothered me with the paint that was on it, the more I looked at it the more I didn't like it. Down low on the panels the paint was rough, alot of contamination in it. She is gonna be slick as glass when we are done with it. I have been doing alot of the little things like cleaning up overspray from whomever painted it before I got it, polishing lenses, and general cleaning of most of it. My buddy lets me stop by and check on it whenever I want and he is a former Vette owner, he knows the deal. He has been bugging me to let him fix my paint for sometime and make it look right, I finally gave in! I will post more pix as the job goes along, next time I will take my camera. They were block sanding the body today w/350 grit, 600 grit will be tomorrow. I thought it was smoother than a babys behind, but they said it wasn't good enough yet. I cannot wait to see it done, she will finally look like she deserves to!

Doug, your (and daughter) color choice puts me to tears. Can't wait to see the finshed photos - you'll be blowing the socks off of people. Deep pearl blue with silver pearl stripes.....damn that sounds nice!

Thanks for sharing the secret. Some people freak out about Bondo, but this is exactly what the stuff was designed for. It's not used to fabricate huge missing parts from a car without the power to move the extra weight : it's for filling body gaps ... and Corvettes have exellent power to weight ratios to start. I look forward to the pics

Exactly, I was waiting for the flames to begin, but like you said, that is what it is for. My buddy finally just handed me his camera today as everytime he goes out to take pictures of it, something seems to come up. Guess I am glad I missed the cutting of the hood!

Default Paint Card Pix

Here are a few pictures I took of the paint card to give you all an idea of what the color is that is going on, pictures just don't do it justice.....

We were going to ghost flames into the middle stripe, put a tint in the clear like a candy coat, and a few other tricks, but decided to keep it clean and simple, going for the dramatic look that way.
