Yep, did mine before it got on the boat - two spray bottles of Simple Green, couple of old toothbrushes and paintbrushes and a high pressure water hose. Fortunately in Vegas it was 90+ so just left her with the hood open for a couple of hours and she was dry as a bone.

Keep the water off the distributor and do not get the TPS wet or it'll cost you $40. If it were me and my engine were that dirty, I'd remove the TPS, put a plastic bag over the connector, cover the dist. and have at it.
Just having to set the TPS is better than having to replace it then set it.

For those of us less mechanically inclined, what's the TPS?

Just dont douse the distributor or Throttle Body, and you should be fine.

I dont use Simple Green when I have Purple Power, because the stuff makes me turn green, but you can safely use it. Don't get it all over the inside of your wheel wells when you hose down the suspension and brakes though, it'll trickle out of the other side of the wheel and can eat off coatings like chrome.

Look at all electrical items, like dist, alt, battery, tps, etc.

Remove or cover these parts before dumping water under the hood.

Then blow dry with compressed air or let air dry till completely dry before starting her up.

I wash mine regularly, with no ill affects. I use aluminum brightner on everything under the hood, and it makes the entire engine compartment look brand new!

Its expensive.

The TPS is the sensor on your throttle body. However, you've have an LT1, you need to worry about douching your OPTI more than the TPS.

PM me with your email address if you want me to send you a picture of a throttle body showing the TPS.

Gordon Killebrew recommends using Westley's Clear Majic on your warm engine. Cover sensitive electronics and use your garden hose with the spray nozzle set on "mist". Blasting it with high pressure water is a no-no.
