How did you guys find your car?
I still miss my '88 and for so long have talked about getting another C4. Then I got the idea of getting a C5. But after thinking about it I just still like the look of the C4's better. I would like to find a good 95-96 6speed preferable black or that burgundy color. For you guys that have bought used where did you get it, dealer, private? Any good websites other than autotrader or ebay?
Also is it a major difference between the lt4 motor and the lt1?
Thanks for the info!

My wife while she was finishing her RN was delivering flowers to a home (part time job) and asked about their corvette in the garage. They were going to sell it to pay a big tax penalty that year. I bought it on April 14. (just in time for him to pay his taxes.) Take your time the best deals are usually never even advertised.

I had searched a local paper called the Recycler. I was looking at LS1 Camaros at the time..Opened another paper called the Pennysaver, opened it up to the page that had some cars listed. Saw the ad for the vette, noticed the prefix was somewhere nearby...The rest is history..

After searching all the usual websites I ended up finding mine through Hemmings.com. Car was located about an hour away so it was an easy transaction. By the way I would never buy from eBay unless you could first see the car in person. While most people on there are legit, I've heard of enough bad transactions.

On my way to work I would drive by a Ferrari dealership. One morning there was a Vette on the used lot. I saw her there everyday for a month before giving in to temptation and stopping. I must admit I was probably sold before taking the test drive - Do Not Do This At Home - and most doubtedly paid too much because of it. But I have no complaints now

They have listings of Vette sales by private owners.
I found that by typing '1989 Corvette' into Google. As luck would have it, they had the exact Vette I was looking for at a respectable price, so I bought it.

My first one was sitting at a Chevy dealership.
Three weeks later after searching the globe, it was still there, begging for me to take a closer look. So I did test drove it, bought it and drove it home the next day.
My second one was on ebay, reserve met, but the buyer backed out. A buddy of mine found it, convinced the seller to honor the ebay price(which was $3000 lower than asking price), told me to come take a look, and I test drove it and bought it on the spot.
This was a used Corvette dealer.

I found mine in autotrader.com. I guy I know runs a small dealership in Deland and he had a 92' green, a 9?' turquois, and my 94' blue one. I was sold when he sent me the photos. He now has a 88' white 1 owner with 55,000 miles. If I didnt love my Blue one so much I would get that one.

mine was at a used car lot for two months. i finally stopped in to look at it (i know the guy who owns the car lot, i figured he would let me drive it), and the guy says he is taking it to auction at the end of the week. turns out, it's a 96 LT1 with 53k miles. he said he would wholesale it to me if i'll buy it and that would save him the auction fees. he showed me the slip from when he bought it at auction and i actually got it for $100 less than what he paid for it.

I found mine on Ebay. I was watching but it didn't meet reserve. They didn't list it again so after about three weeks I contacted the seller (a foreign car dealership) and asked if it was still available and if so what was the asking price. It was way too high, so I just let it go, about two weeks later he contacted me and shot a lower price. I told him I was looking at another one and the price they were asking (much lower than they were). He called me to say he'd match the price. The rest is history.
As said before, don't get in a hurry, the buys are there.

Local Autotrader for mine.
JCD
You be right about CF prices.
Was browsing through a "Corvette and Chevrolet" sales magazine at the grocery store last week and could not believe the asking prices for LT4's; all but one were over $20K, several approaching $23K. The one under had nearly 200K miles and it was $18K.
Who said C4 prices are tanking??????

I got mine on ebay, but was also watching on autotrader, cars.com and the local papers. We passed on an red 89 6-speed because we weren't sure if we were going to buy a vette or not, that one was in the sacbee and it sounded like the best deal around... but now we have the 87 auto.

I looked for four months and made several offers on C4's. Then one night I was having dinner with my sister and brother in-law, who is a caddy- pontiac dealer and he said he had a buddy in Ohio who had a bunch of used vettes. I was trying not to buy from a dealer thinking I could save a few bucks. I was wrong I purchased an 89 six-peed all options original window sticker and service history 34.000 miles. I went out to Ohio and drove the car home. I am really happy with the car.
