Default Hit the NOS today for the 1st time

It was overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time. After a long install, I really took my time to get it all nice and neat and right.

I tried it the first time using the master switch while in 2nd gear at WOT around 3500 RPM (my tires are really bald in the back). It hit really hard like another gear for a second or two, but then it stumbled a little and then it just felt normal. Trap speed was about the same (using my GTech vs. old Gtech Traps) I didnt count ET bc the tires are really bad now. Then we tried it again from the line with the system armed, I rolled out as smooth as I could as usual and once I thought I had it out like usual I nailed it and it just keep spinning and sliding and was way out of hand :steering: , once it got underway (which took a while because I stayed in it) :D it stumbled again and then in 3rd it felt almost normal maybe a bit faster, again traps were the same. I know the traps were not good today, alot of wheelspin, really bald rears, and cool weather, so i am not worried about that. I am worried about why it stumbles and doesnt feel like an extra 100 hp on top in 3rd.

My thoughts:

Good fuel pressure, but not good volume, I guess when NOS claims the stock fuel pump is fine for 100 shot on a stock car, they really mean STOCK, besides, my pump may be a bit tired.

Second, lack of bottle pressure, it was cold, about 50 and I dont have a heater blanket, the bottle pressure was at 800 when I started, and ended up at around 600.

I closed the bottle and armed the system and made a pass, I figured the extra fuel would register on my AF gauge and make the car feel sluggish, but it did neither, so i think the pump may be the culprit. I then had the car idling, with the system armed and the bottle closed, and I hit the micro switch by hand to test the fuel, and it did bog the car and kill the engine so i know the system works, I just think it may not have enough volume under heavy load.

So I concluded I needed to do 2 things:

Improve the fuel pump and raise bottle pressure

I will also pull a plug tomorrow morning to look at one. I am running tr55 cut back with the normal gap, the manual said for 100 shot leaving everything alone should work in most applications, and I dont want to affect the normal operation of the car without NOS.

What do you guys think?

first off.... bottle pressure needs to be about 1050 psi for the full effect... second.. i am guessing your fuel pressure drops dramatically after the first initial wave and begins to run lean from lack of pressure behind injectors (lean is strong but dangerous).. then the pump catches up and it gets rich due to lack of addequate bottle pressure.. this is most likely the culprit for your stumble and loss off power on top. so yes.. upgrade fuel system.... get bottle pressure up where it needs to be and i am certain you will be impressed with it!

It was deffinitely your bottle pressure. 800 is way too low, and dropping down to 600, thats horrible! I usually have my bottle around 900-950. When my friend usually had his around 900 then he bumped it up to 1000 and gained almost 4 tenths. Bottle pressure is everything, if you have under 900 you deffinitely will not get the full effect, you will probably go slower, since you will be added more fuel making your car run rich without the proper amount of nitrous added. I wouldn't go over 1000, my friend got greedy after he gained almost 4tenths by bumping it up to 1000, so he kept going and the nitrous blew up in his intake! It destroyed his whole intake and the throttle body. It was on a hot day though, if that will make a difference. Go out and buy a bottle heater, it will be worth every penny! I think the stock fuel pump will be fine with a 100 shot, I put a new one in when I did my instal and ran a 125 shot no problem, I just blew the trans though! Good luck!

I have an additional high volume in line fuel pump from an FBody that I will probably put in front of my stock pump.

I dont want to run more wires around my car, or have this 400 watt heater killing my battery.
Nonetheless, I think I will be okay once the weather warms up, then I can really feel whats its all about.

I will look for the most simple heater on the market with the least accompanying infrastructure (I dont need a bunch of relays and pressure sensors, and switches and wires in the back of my car) and I will also look for a blanket.

I would agree to your bottle presure being too low.
Are you using any timing retard? :skep:

What kind of NOS kit are you running?

Wet or dry?

Few things. Your bottle pressure should work best at 950-975 constant, according the NOS. I can tell you right now from experience that anything under 900 is way too low.

This is just personal experience for a wet kit, some might disagree but with anything under 100 shot I like to leave my base timing at 6 degrees, fuel pressure @45psi, and plugs at .035, just like the stock recommendings. This could vary from car to car but I have found that I have made the most hp and tq with these settings and the A/F ratio is usually somewhere at 11.8:1. Also, I have experienced the most correct A/F ratio with the bottle pressure between 1050-950psi. Now, you might make more hp and run faster times with higher bottle pressure but you are also throwing off the A/F ratio by doing that so be careful when the pressure is too high.

Get that bottle heater, you will thank yourself

I'm just going to throw this out there. If your bottle is not turned so that the siphon is pointing down, you can get these big "surges". The siphon should be pointing down when the outlet of the NOS valve is pointing down. Just something to look for. Hope it helps, because I don't have a heater and I still feel a boost even when temps are a little low. Try the bathtub trick also, before buying the heater.

Yeah, the valve outlet down, the knob up, and the sticker up.
Bottle installed longitudely in the hatch with the valve sitting higher and up towards the front.

Yes get yourself a heater. I bought one from here http://www.speedshop.org/store/scrip...p?idproduct=15
It works great and a hell of a lot less $ then the other ones. These people have some great stuff, check them out... Note: I have nothing to do with these people, I just like their stuff.
