Anybody ever try a Singal Turbo on a C4?
Has anybody done it? I was thinking of doing it just for now because the 2 turbos will produce too much boost for my engine to handle even with wastegates. Anyway on my passanger side I have more clearence from the wheel well to the valve cover which is 9 inches compared to the Driver side which is 7inches and then the Brake booster and the tanks make it come down to 5 inches. Any suggestions or comments or pics?

"Mike in Boston" posted this in the other turbo thread...
If you want a single, then go for it.
I would liek to hear your plans for running the exhuast on that system.
If you look around on this forum, someone posted some vids of a tubbed out C4 with a single turbo (I dont know who posted or where, I just DL them). That car sounds like a jet, and it is way fast! I have a picture of what I think is it's engine of it on my work computer, too bad I just left there.

There is no mistaking the sound of a big thumping turbo spool up. Nothing compares...That car is sick! I brings tears to my eyes.

 OH S H I T !!! Thats a really baddass Corvette. Lets see if it runs those number in the 1/8 I wonder what it would run in the 1/4  Plus that thing really does sound like a jet, but it only did that after a while when he revved it. Does that mean it took that long for that Turbo to spool up and make that Turbine engine sound?

What exactly is brake boosting? Is that when he loads the drivetrain with stress with pressing the brake and gas at the same time?

It sounded to me that he was using a transbrake - basicallt engaging reverse and a forward gear simultaneously so that the tranny locks up until you release the reverse gear.
In alot of classes transbrakes are not allowed, so the strategy is to run overly retarded timing adavance and a rich A/F. This causes unburned fuel to hit the hot turbine, creating a secondary combustion in the header and turbine hosuing spooling up the turbo at the line. This is one advantage turbos have over superchargers, they can build boost right off of the launch, or with an appropriate converter, right off idle. Full boost boost from off-idle to engine redline.

damm, just thinking of those Dodge Viper 850TT's that trap like what 145mph or 150, this vette does that in the 1/8, Its just crazy when you start thinking of how fast it would be in the 1/4 mile. How much power do you think he is making?

I have seen another picture of it too but it is not working on the honda forum any longer. It was from taken from the right rear and showing most of the car. It had no third brake light so it is a 1984 or 1985.
From another source I have heard that it had "Cross-Fire Injection" side moldings so that would probably make it the fastest 1984 Corvette.

chasenme on this forum has information about him.

I dont know him personally, but I have spoken with him several times at the track. The vette is a turbocharged small block. HE runs at National Trail on Friday night's for the Year end (KOC) King of Columbus Street shootout. The cars must have DOT's, license and insurance to compete. The best I've seen it run was 7.40's @ 180. Most of the time you see the brake lights come on before the finish line, so I guess he doesn't want to reveal his entire hand. He sold the mustang last year and started running the vette toward the end of the season. Even comparing it to the Nitro cars or Pro Stock it is the most impressive car that I have seen launching.
I ran against his mustang in a time trial a couple years ago, it went 8.66 @ 172 on 10.5" Dot's. It looked like your typical 90's style street mustang except for the roll cage and parachute. He drove it to local cruise-ins all the time.
I dont have his phone number or anything on-hand, but I could probably find away to get a hold of him. When the track opens I know I can, if this ROTTEN weather ever goes away!

It is a backhalf car. The front end is stock vette with most of the plastic fenderwell liners removed. The turbo looks huge with an inlet pipe @ 4-5". His intercooler setups are usually unique. The mustang for example had a ice box in the trunk that recirculated cold water through the intercooler that was hidden up under the dash/cowling of the car. This car was stealth. It would pull up next to you in the lanes and you would think it was your typical 12-13sec mustang, then 8.6 sec later he's crossing the finish line.
Like I said before he is always on the brake before the finish line, so I dont really know what potential is there. Plus he just started running the vette, Im sure he still tuning and holding back. It is a fuel injected sheetmetal looking intake setup. As far as weight I really dont know, its not like it is gutted,it is not a tube chassie car. I would be surprised if it is under 3100lbs.
