Default How much nitrous on a stock LT-1? A few questions

I can't afford turbos, supecharging, or engine work so I figured if I get the itch to increase performace that nitrous would be the way to go to get the most bang for the buck. I was thinking I probably wouldn't want to go any more than a 125 shot with the stock internals. Are there any of you that are running a setup like this on an otherwise bone stock motor? If so what kit are you using and are you happy with its performance? I have a 96 automatic if that makes a difference. Also, how would the installation of a nitrous kit affect resale value down the road? I would guess that of all the mods this one could be the most damaging to resale value even if used safely, perception is reality after all and nitrous oftentimes gets a bad rap deservedly or not. Forgive me if these questions have been asked seven million times before, I'm a Vette newbie and just want to make sure if I do this it's done safely. Thanks.

If you are concerned about resell value, the trick is to install it with making as litte modifications to the visible interior as possible so when you go to sell it, you pull the kit off and then no one knows you ran it in the first place.

As for which kit is best. You will get a lot of NOS proponents, NX proponents, and a few TNT proponents. There was a post not too long ago with everyones suggestions on which kit is best so I will just say I ran and still run the NX system and am very satisfied with the results. On a stock LT1 M6 I dynoed 373 rwhp and 450 rwtq on a 150 shot. Not something I would suggest anyone do on a stock LT1 because afterwards I was changing a blown piston ring. Stick to a 100 shot and you will probably never have any troubles from the motor.

Your basic kit and safety equipment will run close to $1,000 new so go into it with enough money to do it right or keep saving until you do. For NX, this would be the basic LT1 kit, the Gen-X II kit, and an RPM window switch. You will also want to go to some colder plugs (Autolite 104 is what I would recommend). You will have to remove the platinum plugs to run nitrous regardless of which ones you switch to.

A 150 shot installed correctly will be no problem. As for which one? There's so many. I went with NOS because they are the "innovators" of the use of nitrous in race cars and I already knew the name . Mine is kit # 5174. there are many good kits out there, just choose all the correct safety components and good luck!!

I'm using the Compucar Wet system with great success! Though I'm running a 100 shot now I plan to go to a 125 and stay there. I absolutely love it! :D

I had trouble with the NOS dry system and switched to TNT wet throttle body set up. 100 HP shot is putting out 120 HP and this is fine. On the 93 there is no mass air so the dry system just did not work for whatever reason it took too long to hit. So I have spent way too much with two complete systems. Another lesson..
As far as re-sale - fagetit this puppy is a keeper..

I did the NX with 100 the I moved up to the 150. I do not suggest this unless you have all the safety goodies like fuel cutoff switch, windowswitch a good MSD box with proper retard.. I have not had the problems speed demon had, but My car only has 107k  .

I really like my TNT kit. I have installed many, many N20 kits on mine, and friends cars, and I really feel that the TNT kit is the best as far as quality goes.

Here are some pictures, but thay are on a camaro LT1, so it is somewhat close :)

Check out my sig. The kit has worked perfectly all season long. I was gonna spray 175hp the last day of racing but we were rained out. I'm going 10's next year.

my Z loves N2O! i spray a 100 shot on it and have sprayed a 150 shot few times. i was too rich with my programming (almost 11:1) and the fuel pressure dropped too far with the 150 shot causing my FPSS to shut the N2O down, so i went back to the 100. i did some tuning and once i get back on the wideband and know where my AFR is, i will attempt the 150 again. hopefully after it is leaned out to around 13:1, my stock pump will be able to handle the 150 shot a little better. i pull 1* for a 100 shot and 2* for a 150 (with a mallory hy-fire vi digital ignition). as long as you don't use oil and can retard spark somehow, the stock LT1 will love N2O!
