Ok, here is the background... I have a supercharged 88 vette with long tube headers, gut'd cats, flowmasters, 1.6 roller rockers and a 58 mm TB.
For about two weeks I have been popin code 33 after a few minutes of driving. I have tested/replaced the MAF, TPS, both relays, ECM and all vacuum lines. With no solution. Finally, I thought it might be the 58mm TB so I switched it back to my stock (48) TB a week ago- no code up until lastnight. When the car throws the code 33 it goes into limp mode and I can turn the car off for a couple minutes and the code goes away for awhile. It doesn't happen everytime I start the car or every time I drive the car. I have a sudden loss of power right before the code is thrown & it surges right around 1600rpm afterwards. I don't get the code as frequently with the stock TB as with the 58mm TB.
I am wondering if possibly I am not getting enough fuel for the amount of air? The timing was adjusted with the 58mm TB. I think the car is running lean now. I want to put a larger TB on (is the 58 too much?), but I need to find out what the problem is first with this code 33. If I do need more fuel - should I get a high pressure pump? or an adjustable fuel regulator? (adjust the timing of course) And if I do this could I put an 8lb pully on the car w/o doing any damage (no intercooler)?
Have you had a custom chip burned for it!? Your car could really use it now. There is a table under constants to adjust the parameter for code 33 setting. With mods you have to increase it.
Also have you had a chance to wide band it? Check the f/a at wot? You'll probably find it way lean under boost-in addition to tuning with the prom I had to install an fmu and a walbro 340 fuel pump. Just don't want to see you burn a piston!
And no a 58mm isn't too big. Please don't increase your boost till you can dyno/tune it with a wideband......
