Default What Should I Know/Do in S/C'ing my '91 L98

OK, thanks to this forum, we have located a complete Carroll S/C system, with gaseous injection, that according to CARB is smog legal. I am to pick up the unit on Monday. I am going to have the turbine freshened up prior to install. The car has 58K mi. with a 700R4. Options of note (relative to the power train) include G92 (performance rear axle) and KC-4 (engine oil cooler).

The car has received regular service and burned Chevron or Union 76 premium all its life.

When installing the system, what (if any) other work should I have done to ensure longevity of operation? A new, high flow, water pump was just installed this year.

You want longevity, youll need to look into forged pistons. But you may as well dog the hell out of it until you need a rebuild.

I am also thinking about going this route, and am building the original engine with forged parts (pistons & rods). I would replace the tranny oil and filter. That way you start out bright red. Look for any significant change to brown or smelling burnt. Having been through 5 700r4's, I know its going to melt sooner or later. The 3rd gear , 4th gear clutches will fry first if the stock convertor vanes don't bend or break off. I would be very interested to follow your progress on the install. Apparently you need an MSD box to lower your timing to avoid knock and detonation, sol I have read on Carrols webpage. Goodluck
