Default Should I try a 150 hp Shot?

I've got a 255lph fuel pump and I'm running the stock FPR which runs rich. But I don't have a MSD 6A. Do you think I would be ok running a 150hp shot? NX says I'm ok, my mechanic says I'm ok, I'm thinking of doing a rebuild this winter anyways, but I'd like to have the option of not incase my budget gets tight. What's your opinion.

150 will be the limit on the stock cast pistons. You'll need to retard the timing two degrees, close the plug gaps to .035" and run good gas. As long as you do that and your a/f ratios are around 11:1 you'll be fine.

The plug gaps are already closed. And I always run 92 octaine or higher when I can get it. What would you guys suggest to retard the timing? I was thinking the MSD 6A or is there something else that might work better?

I spray 150. I'm not sure I understand the worry about timing with the pcm we have. Mine takes timing out when it hears knock. It has taken 11 degrees out before. Let the computer do the work. It's way smarter than any msd.

The concern about taking timing out is that with stock cast pistons, by the time the ECM receives the signal from the knock sensors you are already doing damage to your engine. If the detonation is bad enough it will lead to preignition which will then melt down your engine. This happens very quickly and the larger the nitrous shot the quicker it happens. If you are relying on the ecm to take timing out when you detonate on nitrous you are playing with fire.

You've been warned.

I just went back to a 150 shot from a 100 shot. I have all the safety precautions available, but it still feels a little too strong, I will be spraying less often with the 150 than the 100.

I have an adjustable timing control (MSD part# 8680) plugged into my 6al. It allows you run run full timing and when you want to run the shot you dail out the timing you want (up to 15 degrees) The knob is mounted by my NOS activation switch. For running a single stage of NOS it is very convenient.

:yesnod: :yesnod: Amen to that. I am spraying 150 with 5 degrees retard through my Digital6.

Well, I tried it. and my engine is still going just fine. I didn't change anything with the timing but I did have to adjust my fuel pressure saftey cutoff switch for the Nitrous system. I didn't really set it when I installed the system since I didn't have a fuel pressure meter but I called NX and that's what they told me to do and it seems to be just fine now.

I blew out a ring on a 150 shot in stock form. I always recommend no more than a 100 shot on a stock motor.

I'd agree.
