Making a 'Vette Vortech setup work on an Fbody...Help!
Hey guys,
I haven't seen anyone do this yet, but I have a Vortech V1-T trim that is a counter-clockwise unit. The FBody requires a clockwise head unit to make it the Fbody kit work (lower right side of engine):
What I want to do is basically use the C4 LT1 bracket to bolt the V1 up to my LT1 Camaro. I'm going to relocate the alternator down low and delete the A/C. I got such a great deal on this head unit that I really want to play around and make it work.
The kit has been discontinued by Vortech, but I somehow need to find the bracket that bolts it onto the engine:
Any tips? I'm not sure if the dimensions will work, but I want to get my hands on a bracket to find out, or maybe someone with the kit can lend a helping measurement or two!
Hi Z28 - nice speaking to you the other day and as I said the 2 kits are not interchangeable at all. The engine bay of the Vette ('Y' body) is way too different from the Camaro/Firebird ('F' Body). Even if you had all the Vette front drive stuff (or a Vette engine for that matter) it will not fit into the 'F' body - sorry !!!

I understand what you're saying, but what I'd like to know is Why won't it fit? What won't fit? If I convert over to all Vette accessories, there will be nothing on the left side of the engine to be in my way. Will it stick out too far and hit the radiator? If not, I'm at a loss as to why it wouldn't fit...just trying to understand better.
I am getting rid of A/C already, so the conversion would be relatively easily done.
Can you lend a better idea of what won't fit? I have no problem doing fabrication myself, I'm just looking to go into this with a little more knowledge (that you have!).
Thanks for your help Greg, and understanding that I'm going to be a little stubborn when it comes to my decision to sell the Vortech!
Hi Z28 - maybe you are correct. I am happy to sell you the Vortech bracket and anything else you might need. My recollection is the 'F' Body bay is too narrow and 'something' will hit or touch but it's been a long time and I could be wrong and besides anybody that is determined can make it happen !!!!!
You need to mount the blower backward compared to the F-body, so it winds up spinning in the wrong direction.
you dont mount it bckwards, you just have to use a counterclockwise blower, as i stated. i have a counter clockwise vortech so it only would work with the vette setup.

time will tell. thanks for the info guys!
On the Corvette kit the pulley is at the back
On the F-body the pulley is at the front.

How is that not backwards?
There is no "backwards" according to Vortech...there's clockwise and counter-clockwise. This is the way they're distinguished for centrifugal blowers in general. I'm just going by what they said...but I see your point.
