Default Should I go for it?

I've been debating supercharging or turboing my vette for the past few months. I would build a motor around the idea if I did. Now in my area there is a brand new Paxton supercharger without brackets or the pulley for $500. Model 62387. Should I go for it? This is brand new never installed. Thanks all.

Remember, it's just the blower, nothing else.

How good are your fab skills?

On a $6k kit, the blower is just $2k, the other $4k is for everything else.

Thanks all. I've been playing around with the FI idea and reading up. I would REALLY like to go turbo but the pics I've seen of some folks cars are just too scary. I want to drive this car daily and don't want to be tuning it constantly. I can do a lot of other fun things with $5-6K.

A turbo car will be just as daily driveable as the supercharged car. There will be a bit of time where you'll need to work out the bugs, but after that its smooth sailing until you crank up the boost and blow the motor.

a turbo is alot of fab work, especailly if you want to keep the a/c. Supercharger is easier/quicker. But stock n/a will be the most reliable.

Forced induction is alot more expensive than you might think. When you start getting over 500hp you need forged motors, performance tranny's, stronger rear ends, better clutches, etc. Most of the time to do it right you're looking at 12-15 thousand in upgrades to the car. I see time after time at the track where a well set up normally aspirated cars put down better times than forced induction cars. A good heads and cam car will do very well at the track for alot less money.

Now with that being said. There is nothing quite like making 500-600 horsepower. It is scary fast. It will spin the tires going down the road at 50mph. For pure fun there is nothing like a boosted car. Unlike nitrous it is always there. And no bottles to refill. You can use a smaller cam with forced induction and retain driveability and gas mileage.

Paxton superchargers are not the top shelf supercharger. I would stick with procharger or vortech. There are literally 100's of used superchargers for sale and I would not get the paxton if it were me. I would buy a used kit that has most of the little stuff. The little stuff will add up and end up costing more in the end. Hope this helps.
