Default The Powerdyne lives again

Well it has been about 5 weeks of not being able to drive the vette. When my Powerdyne had bearing failure, I found quite a mess inside. Three of the four bearing bores were damaged. I had a machine shop enlarge the bore and and install steel sleeves with bottoms. I also upgraded the impeller shaft and impeller. I also replaced the four bearing with ceramic hybrid bearings. I found a place called Performance Bearings in Arizona that hand builds bearings.

I reassembled it today and installed it on the car. After it ran awhile I had to make another adjustment. I had to disassemble and add a shim under one of the bearings to remove some impeller shaft back and forth movement.

It is now back on and seems to be working fine. Quite an ordeal.

Good work.

Next time that I need to rebuild mine, I want to go with the upgraded impeller shaft to prevent the tracking washers from ever coming loose.

It would be nice if they would also offer an impeller sprocket with a reduced number of teeth to increase the internal step-up ratio, but this would also require a special belt and could lead to a new set of problems.

I'm happy that there is strong aftermarket support of these blowers, so I won't complain.

just got back to michigan from a trip to glacier national park.we were 78 miles from anywhere when an impeller bearing failed and the impeller locked up. internal belt did not break ---darn.the serpentine belt slipped and squealed. only had a cresent wrench and a screwdriver for tools but was able to remove the impeller nut and that freed it enough to drive. when the shaft got hot it would spin the impeller and grind it against the housing. impeller is shot. i think i can epoxy the housing to smooth it out.does anyone have specs for shimming the impeller ?

I was told to shim the impeller between 10 to 15 thousands. This was told to me by Supercharger Rebuilds. This allow for a little wiggle room if you do encounter a bearing problem.

928 Motorsports say you can shim it to 6 thousands for added boost.

I measured the distance by loosening the impeller on the shaft and measuring the movement before it hits the scroll.

There is a used impeller for sale on Ebay at the present time.
