Default What went wrong with my Supercharger/Super Ram???

I just had a P600B Procharger with intercooler and full Super Ram intake installed professionally. I get it back after $1000's in labor and after half an hour driving it starts smoking. So I pull over and pop the hood. The coolant is boiling and thats what appears to be smoking. I wait awhile then go back on the road. About 10 minutes later im on the highway and all the sudden when the gas is pressed, the engine makes an open, airey noise. Almost as if all I can hear is the engine working and no exhaust. It is making a clanking sound and appears to be knocking very badly. I take the next exit off the highway and find a parking lot. I pull into a spot and open the hood again. When the hood is opened, smoke pours out of the engine from all areas, not just the coolant as it was before. Smoke appeared to be coming from mainly the Intake Manifold. Also, the Supercharger itself was vibrating oddly and moving around when it shouldnt be. I turned off the car and waited awhile. I managed to turn it back on, still engine pouring smoke. I drive it a few minutes to try and get a little closer to home and it shuts down while im driving 3 different times. Eventually I just left it alone and called a tow truck. What happened here???

Sounds like you have some kind of coolant problem. Perhaps you have a leak. Sounds like the engine overheated.

Did you drive the car at all after the super ram install and before the supercharger?

The Supercharger and Super Ram were both installed together. So this was the first time I had it out after installation. Is it possible that I blew the pistons?

It is hard to tell from your description, but it does sound like you could have some serious engine damage. A knocking sound is never a good thing! Did the shop that did the install verify the air/fuel ratio was safe prior to you picking the car up? Bob

They never told me anything about air/fuel ratio. The guy who did this, it was his first time installing a charger but he has done work on C2s and C3s for many many years.

Did they have your engine tuned to run with the procharger and super ram?

drain the oil and look for coolant in it, read your plugs, then conduct a leak down test. if you are lucky, you just popped a head gasket, if you're not, could have bent a rod, cracked a piston...lots of bad things! in the future, be sure to have your setup professionally tuned before taking it for a ride. good luck!

sounds to me you went lean, car ran hot (boiling), you ran it again (the "air" sound is lack of fuel to the engine as you build boost, kinda like you've got the car by it's balls). I'm assuming you cracked a piston.

You should have called the shop back the second it had the "boiling" problem instead of attempting to drive it home.

Chances are the shop will NOT eat the expense of replacing your engine! This just sounds like bad news all together. Sorry to hear!

I answered long in C 4 General but even w/o info such as mods and CR of your engine it sounds like it pushed out one or even both Head gaskets causing coolant to get into cylinders .
Sounds like Cats are full of Coolant too .

If so drop any coolant left and remove spark plugs and spray with WD 40 and check your oil for water and drain and refill while you are deciding what to do.

You don't want coolant left in your engine.
Turn it over a few times and I would squirt a little oil in myself before replacing the plugs.

Oh you did not say if the intake was ported to match gaskets either.
Also CR [ compression ratio ] if any other mods were done ! 11.1 stock compression too high for blower even at 8 lb's !

LT guys run into a lot of head aches getting work done by people who really don't know the ends & outs of the LT engines.
A more complete post will do wonders for getting results .
Someone has been there and done that on this Forum !
