Default what size exhaust pipes?

I'm going to install true dual exhausts...........were at 2 1/4 now, is 2 1/2 enough or do I need 3 inch..........3 inch would require new headers and mufflers.............the y pipe is 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 thats got to be killing me as it is with both 2 1/2 pipes going through it.............is two 3 inch over kill.

I am running a BB 3" through a set of EM long tubes. Glens car made 580 RWHP in 5th gear through a 3" BB and a H pipe with no CATs. I expect the same performance through a X pipe and a set of DTH 3" metallic substrate CATs once the car is totally tuned and ready to deliver.
