Default Went for a ride in a procharged 355cu LT4 last night.

Fully built motor, tranny, alky injection. No idea the boost, but it was supposed to be in the 550 rwhp range. It's dynoed as high as ~675 rwhp and runs something on the order of 11.2 @ 131MPH.

My opinion?

Meh.

I was really really expecting more. Don't get me wrong- the car was FAST. But it didn't have that "Hand of God" shoving you in the back that I was expecting. Now, this might be just the "feel" of a centrifugal supercharger, but it didn't feel as fast as even my 360 rwhp C5. It was very strange.

Well, if you don't think 550rwhp car are insanely fast. Maybe the car is not having 550rwhp. I say show me the dyno sheet and or track ET time slip. because I am having a hard time believe that you were not impress with 550hp car. When I got my blower running 544rwhp on my 93. Let tell you, it is fast. I have offering ffriends go for rides. They are all freak out. Here is the magic word? were the SC is a "standard" 6rib ATI kit??? If so I already know the anwere.

Though, centrifugal s/c's will tend to "pour on" the power compared to a roots or twin screw blower. From 1-2.5k my car feels like a normal LT1, but then it REALLY picks up and gets moving and it's quite violent.

I agree. I have a friend with a 93 mustang that dynoed at 572rwhp. He runs 9.8x at high 13x mph and it is scary to me.

Hmmmm. I wonder how far he is away from Houston? I know mine is no 550RWHP machine, but I believe it to be sufficient to scare the #$%@ out of most street drivers.

Recently I took a guy who runs 10.8s in his stang for a ride, and he said "that yellow felt so much like his to 3000, but then from there to 6500, it just planted him back really hard. Kinda like the stories back in the day of not being able to grab the 20 off the dash."

I'm thinking that maybe he was quoting "what should have been under the hood".

I havent dyno'd mine yet but I know that it will flat pin a person to the seat... The desk sim says I should see about 625 or so at the crank...

I took my 30 year old son for a ride, romped it pretty good was pulling 10 pounds of boost...., the rear end was coming around ... he was speechless. Said DAD this is REALLY scary! Good thing he is of age might get it for child abuse HEH.

I agree mine is also tame until you get to about 2000 and from there on up it is a whole different story!

Hmmmmm - I'd say let's see you (C5 @ 360) and the C4 take a highway run from 60 to 100 or so. If the C4 is making even 500 RWHP he's going to dust you really bad: like make you look like you're standing still !!!

I know what he is saying though,
feels fast and IS fast can be 2 different things
for example when I first put together my car with heads + cam, the day I took it for the 1st ride I was like WTF? where's the beef for 3500 worth of parts? It sounded and ran great, but didnt feel much faster than it was to start. But one trip to the track revealed 1 sec faster et's and 8mph.
Like another 80-100 hp but it didn't "feel" much faster.

My 86 puts down 351rwhp & 432rwtq, I have even scared a few people on test drives that think I'm putting out more than that. When my boost and alky kick in its a real neck snapper. (A big thanks to Greg at BlowerWorks for that). Here is a video of me 351rwhp/432rwtq and 2.73 gears running with a C5 Z06 with all the good bolt on's and 3.90 gears. You can see I ran with him, but you can't see that he got me at the traps. Now if he had 550rwhp he would had left me like I was standing still after the launch.

A 675-RWHP C4 should pull high 10s at least with stock gearing and good street tires, mid 10s or lower if it's geared for it with slicks. 11.2 sounds weak to me, but still pretty darn quick to the average streeter.

Torque is what pushes you back in the seat, not HP. If you look at his track times, he's got gobs of horsepower as seen in the mph, but he seems to be missing alot of down low and midrange torque as seen in his ET.

That's a big side effect of only having a 355ci. Horsepower is much more difficult to "feel".

Try racing him from a roll "supra style" you'll see that car pull away from you pretty hard.

As said before...the feel of driveng a car and sitting in the pass seat is very different.

My car with 641 at the wheels doesn't seem anything on the street as on the track. On the track it's nose up al the way down the track, but on the streets it's like driving on a wet road.

Is the 11.20@131mph with DR, ET Streets or slick??
I think the car has more in it, because mine ran 10.66@135mph with ET Streets and i still believe it could've gone a little bit more. But 675 at the wheels is ALOT.....

All I know is my 86 is 687 at the flywheel and 577 lbs of TQ.
It is a dog out of the hole and at 5200 it wil put you back in the seat ,not to mention the rear breaks the tires in anygear, this is a 700r4 2nd one.If the tires didn't blow off I would be going in circles.
The thing I hate is the front wheels when it does bite come up and I can't see the road.I still think it is a dog,I think my 355 ci LTx motor was faster.I will see on the 17 of this month.

My LT4 had little low end tork. The procharger added a lot to over 3K RPM, but still no low end. The tires would break loose at 3K. This was stock with a 4 1/2 lb pully. The high compression limits the amount of boost you can use in a LT4. If you are modified & running more than 8 lbs, the belt could be slipping on the procharger. Perhaps you were expecting more down low than a SC can produce.

Precisely.

In no way was I saying the car wasn't fast. It just didn't FEEL as fast as I was expecting, that's all. I'm sure it would absolutely RUN away from either of my cars, but it didn't really FEEL any faster than my LS1.
