Default Procharger questions

Okay, first some background on what parts I have & reading of the Procharger documentation.

This kit was for an 85-89 L98 w/ MAF. I have a 90 w/ speed density.

3" outlet on compressor was set up to drop to 2.5" with the first tube. IC has a 2.5" inlet, 3" outlet where the MAF was to go, then drop down to 2.5" for the return to the TB.

Can I just run the 3" from the compressor down to the 3" fitting on the IC, then run 2.5" back to the TB? How about running 3" on both sides, dropping down only for the one outlet on the IC?

I was thinking of taking 3", flattening it a bit to give me an oval shape to fit over the top of the radiator housing where the stock air filter used to go? I know there is going to be a volume vs. air speed by going up in tube size but does it really matter at these relatively low pressures?

thanks in advance for input.

Trog,

I tried to do the opposite of what you are - using a 90 kit on an 88. The result was that the engine got hacked up, the hoses strung by bailing wire. Awful. The only way to make the install look clean was to get the 88 parts. You should really consider that - use the right kit for your car. I still have the 90 intercooler and hoses if you are interested.

hmmm.... I had considered that but also trying to keep sight of the costs. Not to mention I'm pretty good w/ steel.... Still, shoot me an email, pics & prices of the parts you have. There a lot of bits listed in the '90 procharger manual to replace radiator overflow, inner fender bits and cruise contol vacum res. etc. seemed more complex than the older kits.

Speaking of which. Another question I have is about the change to the PCV & vent going to atmosphere instead of to the side of the throttle body. Would the PCV not keep manifold pressure for entering the crankcase?

thanks!

by keeping the pvc system stock it would not releive pressure when youy need it the most....during boost periods, tons of blowby..then you would be seeing oil leaks from leaking gaskets...some place the pvc vent in the supercharger filter to recycle the crankcase fumes BUT it will coat the ducting and intercooler with oil....others just vent to engine bay.
