Default Intake manifold gasket on LTx motor

What kind of intake gasket is recommended on a LTx motor with AFR heads and less than 14#s of boost? I was recommended using 2 gaskets and 3m glue to bond them together. Thanks.

I used high performance Felpro (Thick) before and like it. Do not use the felpro line in the store, as they are not heavy duty and are very thin, I used it once and having intake leak. I later later get one from GM dealer. The GM piece are much better piece. I would not use two gaskets bond togethter.

I run the AFR-220 head and the GM-12367777 fits/works fine.
Good luck!

AFR suggests the stock LT4 gaskets....

I'll be going through this ia few weeks I bought a set of AFR 220's with my new engine thats being built...

The stock gaskets held up well with my 350....

If you have AFR 220 heads hope you have the money for shaft rockers,I paid $1100.00 To T&D.I used the stock lt4 intake gasket and the right stuff for the center gasket.

I have the AFR 190's. Wish I had the bigger LT4 210's. Maybe later on I will pull these and put them on my Trans Am and go bigger.

Hi red,

YeahI just read about the shaft rockers yesterday when going through the AFR website. I'm checking with the builder now ...

The engine should be ready by Christmas

Mo, check with Crane Cams. They have their new shaft mount rocker sets now that I saw at SEMA. A little cheaper than T&D and just as good. They were torture tested and out lasted T&D by 2 sets! What I mean is that during the test T&D had to replace their rockers sets twice to match Cranes one set which lasted the duration of their test.

T&D also takes about 2 mths or longer to build them
Then you have to measure the push rods and get diff size pushrods to match the lift for that rocker not all the same.
Mine were between 4.00 and 3.45 on the push rods.T&D were the first to manufacture the shaft rockers but I don't know if they are the best at that price ,but I ran into a problem not everyone would make them for tha LTX motor.
The AFR 220's also have a problem with drain back so if your machinest can goug out the return holes to let the motor drain back from the heads better ,it will save you from drilling holes in the valve cover and running return lines to the oil pan.
Also the head bolts need to be a smaller nut for the stud or they wont clear the valve springs.

The stock LT4 intake gaskets will cause a restriction (i.e., the inside diameter of the gasket is significantly smaller than the inside diameter of the intake port on the head). Moreover, the stock gasket will barely cover the intake port of the head. Once you get your 220s, install the stock LT4 gasket and then check to see how much it is hanging into the port area. The gasket part number I listed above will fit like a glove.
Good luck!
CT
PS-don't forget, the AFR-220s use a gasket type spark plug not the tapered seat plugs like a stock LT4 head.

The two photos above represent an AFR 220 head and ported LT4 intake (I just happen to have my engine apart)...the gasket part number I referenced above is shown in photos.

Actually, they were hand ported not CNC'd. There was about 1/4" of material taken out of the roof of the intake runner and about an 1/8" of material out of the walls.... An untouched LT4 runner is considerably smaller than what is in the photos above. For the record, the GM part number I listed in my first post was for an LT4 intake gasket...if you enter this part number NAL-12367777 on the www.summitracing.com site, it will take you directly to the propert part (i.e., LT4). Also, the next time you have your intake off the car (presumably an LT4 intake), lay the intake gasket on it to see the difference in your runner volume as compared to the above photo.
