Default FI Heads/Cam Recomendation

My dad has a 93 Coupe with a Carroll SC (V1 B-Trim head unit I think). To the original Carroll kit he has added a Vortech air-to-water intercooler. The car also has TPIS long tubes and some high flow cats on it. He now wants more and is thinking about doing heads and cam in addition to the other mods.

What works well on an LT1 for heads and cam? If the heads dropped the compression a little bit from stock that would be a good thing. What would be a good emissions friendly, boost friendly cam (Comp 304 maybe)?

Is it worth switching to LT4 type heads and intake?

I tried searching but the search function is broken right now.

Thanks.

If it were my wheels, Id buy a set of
-AFR 195's in either 64 or 76cc's
-1.6 ratio roller rockers (you can use either self or non-self aligning, AFR's come with guide plates)
-230/240@ 0.050 on a 114+4 Lsa
-Cloyes billet hex adjust timing set or a belt drive.
-55gpm meziere water pump

That should provide a good 100hp or more increase at the rear wheels.
That's just my $0.02

hey i got a question...

before i turbo... i will be doin my car in stages....

355 or 383 havent decided.. with all top and bottom end up grades...
for now i will keep stock heads and port the piss outta them.
if i go 383 then ill keep the turbo to a t66 or less and if i go 355 ill go to a t70 possibly.
then i will upgrade my tranny.
then get turbo setup and then do the electrical part as well as the FM part.

is it the same as nitrous.. as in ill want a cam with a longer exhaust duration?

Thanks for the info! He has already has the 1.6 roller rockers.

Do you have any idea if it is worth changing to the LT4 type heads and intake for a boosted application?

I've been looking around in the C4 forums and it looks like Racetronics has a pump setup for C4s now. I think that would be a good upgrade too.

I just had surgery so it will be a little a couple of weeks before I can get over to the shop and get some pictures but I will do that.

It was surprisingly easy to do. All it took was to re-clock the blower and trim the hood reinforcement for clearance. All of the original Carroll tubing, etc. literally bolted up. It is as if they engineered it that way and then never offered the aftercooler. The pump and tank are located in the driver's side nose of the car.

~quiketz,

It is probably the Gen IV carroll system that Greg sells , simlar to mine...

Gaseous injection... The pump in the headlight is a clue that that is what it is.... Vortech C5 does it have a blader over where the air filter used to be over the radiator?

I agree with BTF ( BaldTurboFreak) you want to say with a fairly stock profile cam with a higher lift my new engine has a Lunati 215 /228 112 with 551 lift with 1.6 RR's ~ depending on your emissions you have to deal with... I'll be running 220 LT4 heads (76 cc)... 9.0:1 compression ratio forged pistons , rods and crank.

Hope this helps,

Mo

Mo Bandy,

My dad's car doesn't have the gasseous intercooler setup. It was a stage 1 setup until recently when he had a smaller pulley installed and had the Vortech aftercooler installed. He had the Carroll system installed in 1993 shortly after he bought the car.

Thanks for the parts suggestions.

If he is going to port the LT4 heads then yes, it would be worth it. if not, go with afr.

Cam on a stock bottom 350, i think the 230/240 might be a little big.

I am not sure what lsa the CC306 has but if its on a 114 that would be a good cam.
what about LPE, they have a blower cam for the LT motors right? TJ?
