Default Can you convert curved discharge to straight?

Can you purchase the just blower shell to convert a curved discharge blower to a straight setup?

How much does vortech charge for just the shell?

Yes...

And I'm not sure...

I've gotta do the same thing with a V2 T-trim I've got. I ordered it with a curved discharge when I thought I was going to use an air/air i/c and now that I'm going to use a combination of liquid/air and gaseous I've got to get a new compressor housing. I know you can get them because I had to buy a curved one for my old BBC/Vortech boat when I changed it over to intercooled.

Yes, it can be done. I just had my T trim done about 2 months ago. It was a curved and I had it changed to straight. Vortech did mine at no charge but my blower was new in the box. I think they told me the volute price was around $200. So either way it's not bad at all.

$200 isn't bad.

I just called vortech today and they wanted $250 to do it. They said I HAVE it send it to them to change the volute, they cannot just sell the volute.

It probably needs fitting and clearancing as with any close tolerance pump. And of course with any OE supplier they don't think anyone but them is qualified to do the job. I ran into this very same problem with pump manufactures when I was working in the pulp and paper industry.

Default Clearancing

TJ is on the money !!! The impeller to housing clearance is absolutely critical. A thousand or two can be the difference between the impeller crashing into the volute at high RPM and 2 or 3 pounds of boost !!!

Almost any centrifugal supercharger can be made to deliver more boost if the impeller to volute clearance is reduced half a mil but then if you exceed the RPM you clearanced it at the impeller will start to contact the volute as it 'grows' at the higher RPM.

Regards, Greg

Jeb,

If yours is new in the box they will more than likely do it for free, but you will have to send it to them to get done.

Yeah...I called the yesterday and they said they'd do if for free...Actually he said he'd probably just swap units with me for a straight compressor housing.
