Going tomorrow to look at a 70 Red 4 speed coupe. It has 131,000 rounds on the clock and was rebuilt at 114,000 about 8 years ago. It was also repainted about the same time Monza Red. It is showing some chip marks, but other than that I am told it looks real nice. No frame rust of damage, straight car. It is a Numbers matching car. The brakes have been re-done, new exhaust, new suspension in front and back. Seals are all good around the tee-tops and windows. No power windows or locks and it is black vinyl interior with no tilt. Carpets and dash and doors all are very nice as well. He is asking $17,000 OBO. What do you think this car with the info you have is worth? Thanks... :auto:
With the info you have provided it sounds like it is priced right on. That is providing it has a nice paint job and the birdcage is solid. Have you inspected the windshield frame and rocker panels?. A solid frame does not mean that the birdcage is solid. Remove the pillar trim and inspect those areas before handing over your green backs.
Ok guys I looked at the Red 70, base engine...and what a piece of crap-o-la. It would have needed a lot of work and the lowest he was willing to take was $16,000. I don't think he will ever get that for what this thing looked like.
I actually found another one though right by my home town. It is a 1970 4 speed Mulsanne blue Coupe. It is not a matching numbers vette but a good driver. The interior has been gone through completely, almost perfect condition. The paint has some normal chipping by the doors and a few in the front, but nothing bad enough to warrant having to paint right away. It has the deluxe interior with the leather, tilt and telescopic and power windows. It also has new tires and brakes. From talking to the owner, he seems to be very maticulus with his stuff, he has a 66 vert that is show quality and he just had the 70 to drive in the summer. He has the engine done up real nice. Looks to be fairly original and sounds and runs great. The bird cage and frame look to be straight and no rust that I can see.
Any ideas what you think this is worth? He is asking $14,900 and I know he will take $14,000 for sure possibly less. But my question is, is a non-numbers matching coupe worth that much? Any thoughts would greatly help.
Location: Sometimes I wonder... why is that frisbee getting bigger? Then it hits me.
Re: 1970 Coupe - Need advice (rrshepard)
I agree with the above statements. That is a very good price for what looks to be a high quality driver with minimal work needed. I have seen NOM cars in less good shape as you described go for that price.
Thanks for all the advice guys, I appreciate it. The owner of it is actually bringing her over so I can have a couple of my buddies (one body guy and a mechanic) get it up on the hoist and look it over good.
Can anyone tell me where I can find what paint codes where for that year. There has to be a web page for that somewhere, anybody??
Paint and Trim codes are found on the trim plate located on the driver's side door jamb (on the body) above the door hinge. Look at the 1970 Corvette Registry for all sorts of data on the 1970 Corvette. It is at: http://corvetteforum.net/c3/1970regi...0registry.html
