SOLD. 1968 Convertible, 4 speed - $11,000
SOLD
I bought this with the intention of doing a frame off hot rod restoration, but I honestly don't find it a very comfortable car to drive.
This is a 1968 Convertible 4 speed, originally a 427 car, power brakes, non ac, international blue color code.
At some point 30-40 years ago the big block was replaced with a small block. So this is not a numbers matching car. The VIN was replaced by the New York state department of transportation, so it does NOT have an original vin number. (was likely a recovered theft, 20-50 years ago)
So this will never be a NCRS car.
Now that we've got that out of the way. The car is a running driver, but has a bad paint job, some cracks in the fiberglass in the nose, lots of patches on the original frame.
Car has 17" wheels and tires (date code 2021), electric headlamp motors, new radiator support, dual electric fans with integrated shroud, electric fuel pump, seats redone, new carpet, aftermarket tilt column, new steering box, smaller steering wheel, hooker side pipe headers, side pipes/mufflers.
The only difference from these photos is I swapped out the cracked original tail lamp lenses for some bubble lenses.
$11,000.
I also have a parts lot that will be for sale once the car sells,

Yeah, it has a 327 tach (5700/6000). But it has a big block rear, single fuel line, rear sway bar, caps on the yokes, and had a big block radiator/shroud before I swapped it for a later model assembly with electric fans.
The engine that is in it has stamping that indicates it came out of a 1974 Chevelle. The transmission appears to be original, has 1968 codes. My guess is someone blew it up and it was cheaper to swap a small block into it.
If you look at the engine you'll notice the alternator bracket is not a corvette item. My guess is they just tossed a generic small block in it and bought an off the shelf alternator bracket. If the original engine was a 327, the likely would have reused the corvette alternator bracket.
The crank and water pump pulleys look correct for a 1968 327, but I'm not sure if they were also used on other car lines.

With all the ads I see for people looking to own a chrome bumper car but complaining about the buy-in, this is a fantastic opportunity. $12k for a ‘68 roadster, and you can literally do whatever you want with it?
Car should sell in a second.

Recently sold my '72 and looking for something like this but NH (to me) is a million miles away. I would definitely buy it if it is as the owner says it is. Just looking for something to drive and mess around with. I have been diagnosed with cancer and not physically able to trot off to NH. Anyone has any ideas on how to transport the car, let me know. do ask the owner if there are any issues, (large or small) please let me know. May not kill the scale but would buy it with eyes open. Also, could you please send me a video and some more details pics, I would appreciate it. I will send you my email and cell number. You can send the video on either one.
Thanks, Gregg

As far as the vette goes, I won't sell it unseen to anyone because I think a buyer or their representative needs to really look something over before buying it. I sold a Firebird a couple years ago to a guy in North Carolina who never drove up to look at it. Shipped it out there, and honestly I had anxiety for 2 weeks waiting for it to show up because I was not sure if he would love it or hate it. Luckily, he loved it and thought it was in better condition than advertised, but honestly I don't want to go through that again.
There are some Corvette Forum members not too far from me, like Rescue Rogers, who is about 30 minutes from me, if you wanted a un-biased opinion on the car, who may be willing to drive out and inspect it.

Thanks Joe for your honest reply. I agree, I would like to see it up close also. Trying to find something close by but they are few of them around. I'm sure you will find a buyer, todays economy has a lot to do with purchases today.
Again Thanks
Again Thanks

Seller said he had an offer from a dealer to flip it so back to the drawing board. I had transportation lined up, glad I didn’t commit to it.
Thanks JimmoVette and all you guys on the forum for sharing your time, expertise and vast knowledge. It is very much appreciated and helpful..
