For Sale 1978 Red on red with 33,000 miles
We have decided to put our 78 Vette up for sale. We bought it in April 2003 from the original owners. Reason for selling it is that we hardly drive it at all since buying the 2009 five years ago and we drive the GTO to scratch our old car itch. So the 78 has pretty much sat the last five years.
We bought it with 21K miles on it, there are now approximately 33K miles on it. The car has been virtually trouble free in the last eleven years. I did put front rotors, calipers and brakes on the front last year. Plugs, wires, cap when I first bought it. The car has always started, runs, and drives flawlessly. I would have no qualms about driving this across the country.
The interior is 100% original, AM-FM-CB, power windows, locks, rear defrost, these items work with the exception that I am unsure if the CB works as I have never been able to converse on it. Microphone included.
The exterior has about 95% original factory paint on it. The exception being where after hitting a deer there was a crack in the nose. This got repaired, not replaced and then resprayed along with the hood in base/clear. Color and shine match perfectly. Otherwise to the best of my knowledge the exterior is all original. The car came with the red painted t-tops. The original owner bought GM mirrored tops along with pace car front and rear spoilers. So two sets of tops go with the car. Flannel car cover included.
There are a couple of small (to me) issues with the car. The AC does not work, never has since we bought it. I suspect the freon just was not kept full. All of the parts are on the car but I imagine if you want AC the entire system will need a rebuild. The power antenna motor works but the mast does not move. And the tires which I bought new ten years ago while still having plenty of tread are now ten years old so probably are due to be replaced due to age.
This is a very clean, very original un-bubba'd car. Never driven in the winters, completely rust free underneath, it still has the factory date coded exhaust system on it for example. I have all of the pamphlets and books that came with it at the time of sale.
