WTB 1971 coupe
I am looking (slowly) for a '71 coupe. The only real requirements I have may sound odd but I would like the VIN number to end with the last 6 numbers in the range of 105270-108230. The coser to the middle of this range the better. My reasoning behind this is I would like to have a car manufactured and rolled off the assembly line the same month/year as me. If the body trim plate happen to be "F16", well that would be...
While I would like a driveable condition, I am also open to the idea of doing a frame-off resto. I just don't want a rust bucket where deterioration has eaten through the frame completely and there are rusty holes where there shouldn't be...
Thanks for looking!

A16 would be September 16, 1970; about the date the strike began. Your consecutive unit number range indicates a January, 1971 car. If you were born on January 16, 1971, you want F16. That was a Saturday, but the line was probably running.
Good luck with the hunt.

Ah yes, you are correct! I got a little ahead of myself and thought about the A16. It would be nice to have the "F16" body plate for Jan 16, 1971. Thank you for catching that. The site I was using to find the numbers is:
http://www.corvsport.com/Corvette/C3..._1971_VIN.html which is kinda jumbled on a Linux machine. When looking on my iPad it shows January being "F".
Thanks again!

Ya tease! :P
You have a lot of detail photos of a beautiful car. How long have you had it? Was it a complete retoration done by you? Do you have any images of the 'before'?

Hi DV,
I've had it since it was new.
I did pretty much everything but the powder coating on the frame, spraying the paint, and the chrome plating.
Here's a picture in 1971 and one taken in about 1985 and one while it was coming apart.
Again, good luck as you look for a car!
Regards,
Alan

Hey Mike,
Thanks for the link to that site. I could spend days looking over all the numbers and information there! You said there have been some improvements made to the car since you submitted it. Can you send some images of these improvements to me via email? (dezvet@yahoo.com) Where are you/the car located?
Thaks!

Hey my ncrs sticker is in the EXACT same place on the rear window. I did not place it there. Is it a personal preference or the place ir goes for judging? I also have a battery cut off switch. I do wonder if my car was ever judged? Previous owner not aware of it happening. good luck on your search op. Hopefully your search won't take as long as mine but you have strict parameters like I did.

Thanks, I am taking my time and not rushing into any purchases. Having the desire to get as close to an "F16" as possible helps keep me grounded and focussed on not making an "Oh cool!" purchase. But, it does have me also doing tons of google searches...
Hopefully more will see this post and I will find that perfect fit for me.

I am not sure how accurate they are, because they use the word "aproximate", but the c3registry site lists VIN numbers 106697-106814 as having a birthdate of Jan 16, 1971. This means there are 118 vehicles out there...should not be that difficult to find in a world of a few billion people, huh?

Hi DV,
I think finding a car for sale that you'll want and can afford that has a trim tag with a particular trim tag date will be a futile search.... sorry!
You'll certainly find January built cars, but limiting it to one date must make the mathematical odds extremely high.
I think you need to find a way to 'loosen' up your focus so that you'll have a chance of finding a car you'll want to have.
Regards,
Alan

Hey Alan,
Yes, I am aware that the prospect of getting an "F16" is a long shot. I am not limited to that exact number. I am only limited to January 1971...the "F16" would be a bonus. Having such a desire is what keeps me from jumping at the first '71 I see come available. It is something that I want to take my time in finding, but good things come to those who wait, yeah?
